In late March 1967, demolition crews took down the Scholl Marr Castle, the enormous beachside edifice that residents of Seabright took as their answer to the nearby Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The story of the Castle - which was exactly what that, a bathhouse/restaurant modeled to mimic a medieval castle - is told in a new book titled "Santa Cruz's Seabright," published by Arcadia, the South Carolina-based imprint that has published hundreds of titles on local history across the country." Synopsis
Seabright, located atop towering sandstone cliffs and bordered by the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor and San Lorenzo Point, overlooks the famous Santa Cruz Boardwalk and a state beach where locals and lifeguards have performed many valiant acts of ocean rescue. Originally a Victorian-era campground, the neighborhood features special amenities, including a natural history museum, thanks to a long tradition of community activism. The creation of the Santa Cruz Harbor in the 1960s completed Seabright's transition from a summer resort to a year-round neighborhood. The beach doubled in size due to the littoral drift of sand blocked by the harbor seawall, protecting the vulnerable cliffs from the assault of winter waves.

      If you live in Seabright in Santa Cruz this book is a must

      My wife and I have been residents of Seabright neighborhood in Santa Cruz California for 30 years. This history is absolutely compelling for us. When we walk through the neighborhood we now know the inside story of many of the homes that were built in the early part of the last century.
