Product Information

Since Israel's birth in 1948, its air force has been one of the key to its survival. In this book, the author reveals how the Israeli Air Force soon became regarded as the most effective in the world. The IAF began with a handful of scrounged, smuggled and battered old aircraft - including a Piper Super Cub from which primitive bombs were dropped by hand. But geopolitical realities soon inspired Israel to make the air force its top military priority. That strategy has paid great dividends over the past few decades, during which Israel has managed to retain its stability despite constant tension within the fractious Middle East region. The air force has paid a leading role on many occasions, especially during the 1967 and 1973 wars, which Cohen recounts in detail.
