Reuben Chappell (1870-1940) is one of the country's best-known marine artists. In his lifetime, he is said to have painted some 12,000 marine paintings, which now command high prices at auction. His distinct style of painting (known as Pierhead Painting) is now highly collectible, and this book has been produced in order to meet the increasing public interest in Chappell and his work. It is the first book to properly do justice to the life of this remarkable artist, containing as it does over 120 full colour representations of his work and many photographs of the artist and the locations in which he worked. Aimed at both those who collect marine art, and at the general reader with an interest in ships and the sea, this well illustrated biography is superbly designed and produced, showing off marine art at its best.
