" Of Mice and Men is a thriller, a gripping tale running to novelette length that you will not set down until it is finished. It is more than that; but it is that. . . . Synopsis
A controversial tale of friendship and tragedy during the Great Depression They are an unlikely pair: George is "small and quick and dark of face"; Lennie, a man of tremendous size, has the mind of a young child. Yet they have formed a "family," clinging together in the face of loneliness and alienation. Laborers in California's dusty vegetable fields, they hustle work when they can, living a hand-to-mouth existence. For George and Lennie have a plan: to own an acre of land and a shack they can call their own. When they land jobs on a ranch in the Salinas Valley, the fulfillment of their dream seems to be within their grasp. But even George cannot guard Lennie from the provocations of a flirtatious woman, nor predict the consequences of Lennie's unswerving obedience to the things George taught him. "A thriller, a gripping tale . . . that you will not set down until it is finished. Steinbeck has touched the quick." -- The New York Times

Baby steps into the english poetry

Being a pretty young villain from suburbs of Russia, and living most of my life in a country where schools are very nationalistic contemplated poetry that I've read only to national literature and Russian classic (ex-ussr). Even through english is my 3rd language I've had pleasure learning it from mass media and online games throughout my 13-18 years of life. Sometime ago I went on to change my priorities, my views. I've heard about this book approximatelly 7-8 years ago, back when I was watching TV series "Lost". Back then it didn't mean anything to me as I was too young to open my mind to something so new and uncommon. A few weeks ago I ordered this book, and two days ago I started reading it. From the very first page I was sucked into it so deep that I've spent 6 hours reading it ...

    • A touching book. It's short. Portrays characters well

The 2 main characters where great. Especially how the go on their adventure to find their "dream farm". Back in the old times (I believe the book took place in California), when blacks where treated unfairly, and "handicapped" people were looked down upon, one man (Lenny) takes care of this "handicapped" (George) bonding an unforgettable friendship. The ending is a little sad, but still a great book to read. The only reaon i gave it four stars, was because it just insnt my kind of interest, but because i thought it was much better than i anticipated, and actually has some very good parts, i would defnately give it 4 stars. P.S. i belive it takes place during the dust bowl in California, but havent read the book in a long time.

    • Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck

This was a very good book. It is not that long and is a pretty easy read. The two main characters are Geogre and Lennie. The two work on a ranch and you meet some of the characters. Lennie who loves animals and it side tracks him. Lennie doesn't think before he does something and this gets him in trouble throughout the book. The book is a must read. I don't want to give to many details away because you should read the book. I think you should buy it and can get it for a reasonable price on Ebay.

    • A must have for English students

The Penguin edition of the paperback book, "Of Mice and Men", is the required edition for the English class that I am enrolled in. The book is standard for many high school and college classes. It is a convenient size that does not take up too much space in a backpack. Any book written by John Steinbeck is good to have for future reference.
