Lasse Hallstrom (THE CIDER HOUSE RULES, MY LIFE AS A DOG) directs this romantic comedy in which Julia Roberts plays Grace, a decent but naive southern woman who, happening to drive by her husband, Eddie (Dennis Quaid), one afternoon, is shocked to discover him locked in a passionate embrace, in public, with another woman. She immediately confronts her errant hubby, setting the town gossips' tongues wagging, and moves back in with her wealthy parents, provoking reactions from her imperious dad (Robert Duvall), who believes that a wife's duty is to stand by her man, and her sarcastic sister, Emma Rae (Kyra Sedgwick), who thinks that the bum got what he deserved. Soon Grace has caused a town scandal by openly questioning anyone who may have had an affair with Eddie and also starts to unearth problems in her parents' relationship. The film is ultimately a story about women who attempt reconciliation with their cheating spouses by exploring a new set of rules on their own terms. The screenplay is by Callie Khouri, the Academy Award- winning screenwriter of THELMA AND LOUISE.

      This IS "Something to Talk About"!

      Love the way this story is done, it is fast and even after several viewings there is always something new. Love the Characters, they each deserve a capital "C", even the ones you'd like to clobber. I had it on VHS which after years living aboard, did not do well when we came back to land and I was thrilled to get a DVD. Family in town pre-Christmas and we ALL really enjoyed it. Lots of great one liners and one Incredible Truism. Won't spoil it for anyone new, but it's worth waiting for. First time I heard it, shook my head and rewound to be sure of what I'd heard. Pretty Profound. LOVE THIS MOVIE!

      I ADORE this movie!

      There isn't anything in this that was earth shattering or incredible performances. It was just a good Sunday Afternoon flick, I own this one and forgot how much I enjoyed it until my Daughter and I pulled it off the shelf. Julia Roberts does a believable job as a woman who has found out that her husband has screwed around on her. What I liked most about this movie was allll of the secondary characters... Kyra was the PERFECT Older sister looking out for her younger one, Gena was Great as the Southern Belle Mama, the Aunt (don't know this woman's name)was HILARIOUS as the "little" crazy Aunt that would/could go there. You really have to pay attention to this movie there are so many innuendos and funny moments that I truly can recommend this one. The actress that played the daughter was ...

      Great value on a great performance by Julia Roberts and all-star cast!

      HTF, now considered oldie. Julia Roberts' character finds that her husband, played by Dennis Quaid, is being unfaithful. She goes on about her life dealing with family issues of her own as she manages horse sables for her parents...played by Robert Duval and Gena Rowlands. Her sister is played by Kyra Sedgewick. Wonderful movie with excellent comedic property added...language is at times harsh, but I have yet to see a divorce that didn't have a few sprinkled her or there. Loved the movie enough to hunt it down and purchase it!

      Something to talk about

      Ebay was the only place I could find this movie. It's funny, heartwarming and wwonderful. When I hunt a movie I dont care if I find it on DVD or blu ray, especially this movie. I'm old, trapped in this house with too much time on my hands. This meant a lot to me.
