This is the Ward Lock New Edition, with 40 illustrations by George Hutchinson and a note on Sherlock Holmes by Dr Joseph Bell. Third printing, issued in 1896. two-colour gilt cloth hardback with gilt titles to spine. Original endpapers, bearing the signature "Walter Baker-Gabb, 1897". 224 pages plus 10-page publisher's catalogue, and tissue-guarded frontispiece. All illustrations present and correct. In attractive condition with some bumping and wear to the edges, small loss to the spine-ends, and partial fading to the spine (please see pictures). Internally clean and free of inscriptions. Binding holding sound and square, but with crack to hinge at page 80-81. A very nice example of this scarce book.”
