Most threatening was a bulge on the side of the snowy peak, pushing steadily outward. Near Spirit Lake, local resident Harry Truman refused to leave his lodge, even as scientists like David Johnston warned about potential destruction. On May 18, the mountain finally blew, enveloping whole communities in ash and smoke. Mudflows destroyed bridges, houses and highways, and fifty-seven people, including Truman and Johnston, lost their lives. Today, the mountain is quiet. Plants and animals have returned and hiking trails have been rebuilt, but the scars remain. Join author and journalist Jim Erickson as he recounts the unforgettable saga of the Mount St. Helens eruption.

- b***i (998)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseArcadia Publishing offered this brand new book at a much more reasonable price than other sellers were asking for this book, both new & used, on Ebay. Book arrived on time, in brand new, great condition, well packed in bubble wrap inside of a sturdy cardboard mailer. No damage; in perfect condition as described, within the dates seller promised. Very pleased with this transaction, thank you!
- 5***a (1259)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseExcellent transaction! Especially noteworthy was that for a competitive price, this seller shipped the book in a cardboard box, protecting this new item, unlike the more common experience of books shipped in a plastic sleeve/mailer, which sometimes arrives ripped or torn. Highly recommended.
