About this product

Product Information

PULITZER PRIZE WINNER * NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * A spellbinding novel that transforms history into a story as powerful as Exodus and as intimate as a lullaby. With a new afterword by the author. This "brutally powerful, mesmerizing story" ( People) is an unflinchingly look into the abyss of slavery, from the acclaimed Nobel Prize winner. Sethe was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not free. Sethe has too many memories of Sweet Home, the beautiful farm where so many hideous things happened. And Sethe's new home is haunted by the ghost of her baby, who died nameless and whose tombstone is engraved with a single word: Beloved. "A masterwork.... Wonderful.... I can't imagine American literature without it." --John Leonard, Los Angeles Times

It's BELOVED by the late Toni Morrison!! It won The Pulitzer Prize. Deservedly!!

Toni Morrison wrote this book so of course it is incredible. I hate writing book reviews as I am always afraid I'll give something away. Art is subjective as well. What I love someone else might hate. I love Toni Morrison is this book is famous. I lent my copy out and of course it was never returned. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great story, great writing.

  • Out of White America's comfort zone

For White America, this book candidly explores the unknown world of what living as an enslaved person is like. Most White Americans have no idea of the struggles others go through. This book puts the problem squarely in front of us and sympathetically walks us through it.

  • Once you read the book, you understand the title.

It is a good look into the effect and affect slavery had on people from the master to the slave. The book also covers guilt, personal feelings, and interactions between people.

  • Richly Told Story In A Bargain-Priced, Almost New Book

Excellent buy for a richly told story that is essential to American history.

  • A story that needed to be told!

Books are always better than the movies because they leave out so much that they become confusing. I love books because they tell the whole story. This one is so good. Such a tragic and sad story of unthinkable choices!
