About this product

Product Information

Utilizing its experience in developing Major League Baseball titles EA Sports changes direction to develop a baseball game that is set among the ranks of the NCAA.

College baseball features aluminum bats that can produce deep hits, as well as the sought after "ping" from the bat after making contact. Combined with all new swing types, players will have complete control to either protect the plate or swing deep for the fences. Also included are 128 universities from all of the top conferences, as well as 19 ballparks including Rosenblatt Stadium, home of the NCAA College World Series.

The right thumb stick controls both the intensity of the players swings at the plate and the precision and strength of their throws. At the plate, gamers use the right thumb stick to first load their backswing and then fire through the strike zone at the right moment. On the field, gamers use the right thumb stick to control the intensity and accuracy of their throws, whether firing one to home plate or gently tossing the ball to first base.

The enhanced Creation Zone feature allows for a more personalized experience where players can build a college program from the ground up, while the Custom Ballpark feature allows players to adjust the heights and distances of the stadium walls. Players may also choose between NCAA Rules and Summer Rules, in the latter using wooden bats instead of aluminum.

Regardless of the style of play, calling the action from the virtual broadcast booth are the voices of ESPN announcers Mike Patrick and three-time All-American pitcher Kyle Peterson.

  • MVP NCAA 2006 (PS2)

Not the same as playing with real professional players, but there is something "pure" about playing as unpaid amateur athletes. The ballparks, while probably aren't authentic, feel like "real" college fields with cows grazing or busy highways in the backgrounds. The new batting system (load & fire) is the most addictive part of the game. Makes you really feel as if you are doing the batting. Not as good, but still an attractive feature, is the new defensive throwing system which requires a higher level of concentration. Would I have preferred EA getting the MLB license? Yes, but I prefer this game with college players over the other professional versions available. I love the new controls. And at around $30 it is priced right too.

  • Step in the Right Direction

This game is one step in the right direction. For too many years baseball games have been content with the so-so upgrades and lack of improvements have really kept me from playing them, aside from renting to see if there had been improvements. Finally a game with the long over due improvements hits the shelves and it’s largely under rated by most everyone. I know it took me three of four tragic losses to get used to swinging the bat with the right thumb stick, but hey I finally got it down and you can too. The new base throwing and fielding is great. It makes you concentrate on what your doing not just press a button and it happens. The bull pen and bench options are a touch of the R2 button away. Menus are easy to read and all important information is quickly on the screen without ...

  • Good, not Great

As oppoesed to its predecessors, MVP NCAA plays much differently. Its not nearly as smooth nor as pleasing to the eye. Also, games take much longer than a half-hour because batters go through their between swing rituals, which gets boring and repetitive after you play a few games. Additionally, players make inexplicable errors and seem to stand still when you're trying to turn a double play, and move even slower to cover a base when either a player or the computer lays down a bunt. Its a good game, but with many faults. Stick to MVP 05, its outdated now, and cheaper now, but plays so much better than both NCAA games and newer MLB games.

  • MVP 06 NCAA Baseball (Playstation 2)

I liked this game mainly because it's the only college baseball game. It has a little less than perfect graphics you might find on the original Playstation 1. The minigames in the game are super fun!! This game also has tons of options to make play awesome!!
