About this product

Product Information

"Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate" for the Nintendo 3DS casts you in the role of a monster slayer. When your ship is attacked by a giant Elder Dragon, your impressive skills are noticed by the Caravan. This group's goal is to protect the citizens of the land from the evil creatures that inhabit it. After accepting this offer, you'll find yourself hunting the remaining Elder Dragons that are plaguing the population. "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate" on the 3DS was developed and published by Capcom. It was released in 2015 in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Your primary goal is to defeat every monster that terrorizes the land. You'll start each adventure by accepting a quest from the current town. After accepting a quest, you're taken to the wilderness to hunt your prey. The wilderness is made up of different areas, requiring you to track your target before combat begins. Even after finding a beast, it will frequently run off to other regions of the map. You'll need to keep an eye on the terrain at all times. While the Artificial Intelligence in previous games was no slouch, the monsters in this title are much smarter. The beasts will frequently use the terrain to their advantage such as hiding in tall grass. Combat is undertaken from a third-person view that relies on reflexes. You'll dodge out of the way of a beast's attacks and land combos of your own when you see an opening. However, you need to plan your attacks carefully due to your stamina bar. Once the stamina bar fully depletes, you are easy prey for any large beast. The monsters in this game are huge, often filling up the entire screen. Each one has their own attack patterns for players to learn. You can even mount the larger beasts to hit them in their weak spots. Combat ends when a creature is killed or after you fall in battle a total of three times. This action RPG for Nintendo has no experience points or levels. Rather, your potency in combat is determined by the armors and weapons you use. This title features 12 different weapons to master, including two new ones. Foes are weak to certain types of weapons and strong against other ones. While you can purchase weapons and armor, it's more efficient to make and store your own. Only by harvesting the remains from your fallen opponents can you create powerful tools. To collect enough materials, you'll need to kill each beast a number of times. This title will make you work hard for each upgrade you obtain. Defensive skills are just as important as offensive ones in this game. Before you head out on a hunt, you can craft a number of items to help you out. You can create items that will give you buffs in combat such as additional attack power. You can also create traps to hold your enemy in one place and stop it from fleeing. The multiplayer mode in this title lets you play with up to three friends. This game for the Nintedo 3DS has a rating of T from the ESRB. This rating is due to the game's fantasy violence, blood, and crude humor.

Do I even need to say it?

This game has been a fan favorite since release, and there is no question as to why. It is a brilliant game that greatly improves upon the previous generation. 2ds owners will be pleased to know that unlike 3U the nub works for camera control. No more tapping or using the touch screen is necessary. Beyond that the content is top notch. The world, the hunts, the monster selection, and the hub town with its quirky characters all combine to make one of the finest entries this series has ever had.

  • Excellent Game

First bought tri on the Wii to play with my friend. I've played it consistently ever since, now including 3u and 4u. I actually bought a 3DS for the sole purpose of playing mh4u. The game is exciting, and realistic enough to be compelling without being too bothersome. Gameplay is dynamic, giving you lots of preference. It's challenging, but not too difficult, and relies much more heavily on actual player skill than equipment or levels. Multiplayer is also excellent. It's very well structured and balanced, and there's nothing more fun than fighting a gigantic dinosaur-like creature right alongside your best buddy. All told, an excellent game, well worth my $25.

  • So Hard to Put Down!

I first borrowed this game from a friend with no idea that I would be so addicted to it. The gameplay is perfect for people who love a good hack-and-slash with RPG elements. The fantastic creatures are my favorite part, being interesting and unique in their biology and attacks, and resembling glorified dinosaurs and dragons and ancient beasts of legend. The game will give you a good challenge and hours upon hours of gameplay, with or without online friends. I love Monster Hunter!!

  • A solid installment in the Monster Hunter franchise.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is a great installment in the Monster Hunter (MH) franchise. The story is slightly more complex than the previous game (Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate), taking the hunter to multiple villages (as opposed to the 1 village in the previous installment). The monster selection is more varied as well, having more large bugs and mammal-like creatures. The game mechanics are fun and the graphics are not too shabby either. The only thing that I didn't like in the game was that the color schemes of some of the settings were pretty irritating (too many vibrant, warm colors in my opinion).

  • I 3 Monster Hunter

I used to play MH3 and MH4 with a friend what seems like ages ago. I recently picked up a 3DS and decided to relive some of the magic. I’m happy to say that I have not yet been disappointed! This game was/is an awesome advance in what I loved about the MH3 game. (I’m a big fan of the new jumping attack/climbing.) New weapon types are sweeeeet... (Love the Charge Blade) The controls do take some getting used to, but I’m sure I’ll have it mastered in no time. Decent story to help advance the game along. (The NPC dialogue is cute, and has its own comedic charm.) The graphics are surprisingly good for a game boy, about on par from the MH3 game on the Wii console. (From what I can recall) All this I managed to snag for about $20.00 (used)! I look forward to many hours of relaxing and hunting, ...
