Simon and the Witch… spellbinding!
An unlikely friendship between a young boy and a mischievous elderly witch leads to pure 80’s comedy gold. This DVD contains all episodes from series 1 and 2 and although no extras are included (behind the scenes etc) it doesn’t really matter as to get this released on legit DVD has been a challenging journey from viewers, very fond of the TV series. Lovely 80's gem from the days of the CBBC Broom Cupboard!! Both principal and support cast in this series were just superb. The kids are brilliant, and Elizabeth Spriggs (who plays the witch), must surely appear here in one of her best loved roles. The first series was so popular when first shown in 1987 that a second was commissioned almost at once. A third may have followed, had it not been for the star of the show (Hugh Pollard - Simon) having grown up so much in the space of two years that he now appeared 'too old' to play the lead role. Both series appear in this lovely three disc set and the episodes were Produced by Angela Beeching and Directed by David Bell, both of whom went on to work on Grange Hill. Also, look out for a very young David Crane who plays Simon's friend ... Lovely 80's gem from the days of the CBBC Broom Cupboard!! Both principal and support cast in this series were just superb.
