    Like a Vacuum Cleaner, "Network" Sucks AND Blows!

    What can I say? I remembered it differently. It came to mind and I hunted it down - got a GREAT deal - was excited to watch it and... it's the WORST. Like Disney's "Black Hole" worst. Run away! Keep your cash!

    A PROPHET USING A SCRIPT.......

    Network is a film that is so prophetic, it could have been made yesterday! This film and its' creators' captured the wasteland that television has become today. Peter Finch, William Holden, Beatrice Straight, and Faye Dunaway provide performances that will long be remembered, ESPECIALLY THE MAD AS HELL DIALOGUE BY PETER FINCH! The scene with Beatrice Straight confronting William Holden in regards to his relationship with Faye Dunaway, is one of the most emotionally moving I have ever seen on film. IF EVER AN ACADEMY AWARD WAS EARNED FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS, IT WAS THIS PERFORMANCE GIVEN BY BEATRICE STRAIGHT AS THE WIFE OF WILLIAM HOLDEN IN THIS FILM!     Awesome movie- 40 years ahead of it's time

    This is an extremely well made movie- a great piece of intellect- full of satire, profound looks into human nature and predictions of what has come today. An inspiring eye-opener that will make you laugh, get angry, get excited and a bit saddened. The message it presents is probably far more powerful for today than it was back in 1976- then it was just the beginning, today it is reality. You'll walk away after seeing this movie saying "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!" This movie won many awards for obvious reasons. I don't usually like dramas, but this one is well worth watching.

    Not really a satire anymore.

    I wanted to buy this movie when I had heard about it. When i watched the movie, (as it said on the box) it seemed like less of a satire and more of a biopic of sorts. This is not due to the movie being defficient in any way, but the defficience of our times, and news culture. There are funny parts of this movie, but a great deal of the satire is lost when indeed many of the things that are absurd in the movie are true to life now. I would say its worth a watch and later a hard drink to mourn what used to be the news.

    network

    Network is a masterwork by Paddy Chayefsky. In it he is able to foresee what will happen to network news programs years before massive changes actually take place. Seeing the film now and comparing it to what is going on at the major network in the current time is a frightening chronicle. Over the top==yes, but not by much. The major networks are going in the very direction he first wrote about in the late 60s. The drive for the dollar overrides every other consideration. While the late Edward Murrow once accurately stated "There is no such thing as a completely objective reporter", Network makesclear that objectivity is being swept away by the drive for control and wealth. The movie really did make people madder than hell, but so far, they keep on taking it!
