Synopsis
If You Can Keep It is at once a thrilling review of America's uniqueness, and a sobering reminder that America's greatness cannot continue unless we truly understand what our founding fathers meant for us to be. The book includes a stirring call-to-action for every American to understand the ideals behind the noble experiment in ordered liberty' that is America. Metaxas believes America is not a nation bounded by ethnic identity or geography, but rather a radical and unprecedented idea, based upon liberty and freedom.', #1 New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas delivers an extraordinary book that is part history and part rousing call to arms, steeped in a critical analysis of our founding fathers' original intentions for America. In 1787, when the Constitution was drafted, a woman asked Ben Franklin what the founders had given the American people. "A republic," he shot back, "if you can keep it." More than two centuries later, Metaxas examines what that means and how we are doing on that score. If You Can Keep It is at once a thrilling review of America's uniqueness--including our role as a "nation of nations"--and a chilling reminder that America's greatness cannot continue unless we embrace our own crucial role in living out what the founders entrusted to us. Metaxas explains that America is not a nation bounded by ethnic identity or geography, but rather by a radical and unprecedented idea, based on liberty and freedom for all. He cautions us that it's nearly past time we reconnect to that idea, or we may lose the very foundation of what made us exceptional in the first place.

Unfortunately I received a damaged book, the item and the package both were damaged and it was clearly evident its appearance that it happened during transit. The seller was very understanding and gave me a full refund for the damaged book, though it was no fault of their own. Other than the damage, the book was as described, the quality and condition aside from the damaged spot was like new. The cost of the book was reasonable. I would definitely purchase from the seller again.

Although this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate.

I highly recommend this seller to anyone looking for quality products and excellent service.

A very nice copy, and reasonable price..I am happy!

This book is a gem. I gave it to several friends and grandchildren for Christmas. The author is a reliable source on history and a compelling writer. I so appreciated the details of the fascinating life of Squanto and also details I had not read anywhere else on the Great Awakening. This book should be read by all high school students to shed light on history of our republic. Thank you for this excellent copy at a very reasonably price.

  • Review of "If You Can Keep It" by Eric Metaxas

This author brightens the path forward with knowledge of the history of America. The schools won't teach it, the government won't mention it, and the church is asleep at the lectern on the topic. So? Get it, read it, deal with it accordingly.

  • American Freedom: The freedom to do as we please, or, the freedom to do Right.

A reminder of our history that we should not forget. A call to our duty of passing on to the next generation of the good things that made America great. Too many of America's enemies, inside and out, want to bring to the forefront the dark side of human nature that every country must deal with. A call and reminder for this generation and the next to use the freedom to do right more than the freedom to do as we please.

Excellent and very relevant to what's happening in our country today. We don't need to forget the sacrifices made to form the United States.
