    We need more heroes like Ron Santo.

    I grew up watching Ron Santo as the Cub 3rd baseman in the '60's. He was always my hero. Hard nosed and earned every dollar he was paid. As he got older, more details about his life emerged and another generation of Cub fans admired him, but not just for his playing career. I avoided this movie for decades because I did not think I could watch Ron as anything other than the lively, colorful man that he was in his playing days. This was a mistake. He became a hero to more people than ever, and not just for his ball playing efforts. He helped raise millions to fight the diabetes that made his playing career more difficult and shorter than it should have been. He died fairly young and my wife and I hung his jersey in our living room after shedding many tears during our mourning period. She ...
