Entertaining and genuine
More than any TV series I've seen, this show conveys what it's like to be a nurse. I'm not a midwife, but I can certainly relate to the camaraderie of these nurses, the self-doubt they feel when something goes wrong, their grief at losing a patient, the feeling of being bone tired, but being called on to see one more patient before getting to rest, the challenge of establishing trust and encouraging the patient through a rough time; the constant effort to keep up with new techniques and medications. It's nice to watch a series that doesn't treat nurses as eye candy who just stand around in the background waiting to be told what to do. It's interesting, too, to see these nurse midwives experience situations that I dimly remember hearing about as a young child. All in all, an excellent show.
