About this product

Product Information

At the multinational corporation of Gracen and Gracen, executive Jim Profit (Adrian Pasdar) is the golden boy: handsome, effective, efficient, on the fast track to the company's top positions. What his superiors don't realize, however, is that Profit's success is largely due to his pure and unadulterated ruthlessness. No tactic is too low or too unsavory for Profit, who uses blackmail, sex, murder, and more to get what he wants. But Profit has two problems that may stop him in his tracks: suspicious Gracen security chief Joanne Meltzer (Lisa Zane) and his own traumatic childhood experiences. PROFIT was short lived in its initial broadcast run on the Fox network, with only the pilot and three additional episodes being shown before the program was cancelled, presumably due to its subject matter and sociopathic protagonist. THE COMPLETE SERIES contains the two-part pilot and seven other episodes, including four that were never broadcast.

  • Dark Drama Ahead of Its Time

A very unique drama that was simply ahead of its time in the mid-90's. Clearly a product of the 80's obsession with business success, the drama centers around the mysterious Jim Profit. His character is revealed more and more with each episode and his manipulative and decietful ways of forging his position within the corporate world of "Gracen & Gracen, Inc." become more and more evil. I had forgotten about this short-lived series on the Fox network until the Showtime series "Dexter" made its way to prime-time. The dark character, "Dexter," a day-time forensics investigator for the Miami Police Department who, at night, becomes an unstoppable "vigalante" serial killer, reminded me of the equally dark charcter Jim Profit who uses ...

  • GREAT SHOW THAT DIED BEFORE ITS TIME

This was a great mid 1990's series about a sneaky, sleazy, smooth talker by the name of Jim Profit. He works for a multibillion company that basically invests in and/or buys other companies. Profit will use any means necessary to work his way up the corporate ladder, including schemes that are both unethical and flat out illegal. But he is careful to always cover his tracks and never leave his fingerprints behind. Several characters are onto Profit's behavior at one point or another, but each is put down by Profit just as they think they are finally about to expose him to his boss. Profit's motivation is unclear. You find out early on that he had a most unusual and twisted childhood that explains in part his obsession with the company he works for (Gracen & ...

  • A good nostalgic watch.

Before there was Don Draper, there was Jim Profit. Interesting show, keeping in mind it appears dated/released in 1996. There's definitely an influence from the movie Disclosure(1994), definitely worth a watch. I was lucky to find this box set at a Goodwill for $6, and for those wanting it now, you can see it on rather 'okay' quality via youtube.com. 8 episodes, it's a shame it didn't last longer. The interview/commentary alone is worth a listen. If you enjoy Mad Men, House of Cards, you'll probably appreciate this program.

  • PROFIT - The complete series

This would be my first product review (ever). I purchased this movie series from ebay after accidentally coming across the pilot on youtube. the plot caught my attention and i decided i wanted to see the whole thing. I believe it is a very good plot, good acting and after devouring the whole series in 3 days, i wanted more. I never even heard from this series nor did any of my friends but it sure is worth seeing and even bringing it back to the screen. It is a dark story about a guy that seems likable but is extremely manipulative... watch the pilot on youtube and decide if it is of your liking like i did .... i am not a movie critic/expert and i actually don't rent or buy movies, but i thought this one is worth it and maybe you would like it as well. Thanks for reading my first ...

  • The Best Television Suspense Drama Ever

I can't add to the reams already written about this short-lived show, and it's corporate Machiavellian Anti-hero, Jim Profit, the Deliciously Evil spawn of American Psycho's Pat Bateman and Wall Street's Gordon Gekko. Only six episodes were shown in the US, and ten years later, the buzz about them persists still. (Personally, I bought this on Amazon the day it became available, as I had been waiting ten years for that day. Even more amazing, everyone who watches it based on my recommendation is spellbound. For the best source of information, see www.IMDB.com (internet movie database), and search for PROFIT. Be sure not to miss the "quotes" section ! TM
