Synopsis
The phrase "Made in Japan" once conjured images of assembly-line production, but now it connotes well-made products that are unique and ingeniously designed--sometimes elegant, sometimes cute, always charming. And none are more charming than the graceful, functional, sewn objects called zakka. In Japanese, zakka means "household goods," referring specifically to hand-sewn items for domestic use--tableware, kitchenware, containers of various kinds, even simple clothing. Therese Laskey and Chika Mori were enchanted by the many clever pieces they saw online but disappointed that directions and patterns were solely in Japanese. They knew they had to put together an authentic zakka book for English-speaking crafters. To do so, the authors enlisted the help of some of the best zakka makers in Japan to create 25 projects ranging from utterly simple (an appliqu d pot holder, flower-shaped coasters) to ambitious (a house-shaped camera cozy, an adorable pair of comfy padded slippers). Each project includes easy-to-follow instructions and how-to illustrations. The lovely photos of finished pieces were taken by New York-based Japanese photographer Yoko Inoue., The phrase "Made in Japan" once conjured images of assembly-line production, but now it connotes well-made products that are unique and ingeniously designed-sometimes elegant, sometimes cute, always charming. Accurate item description and pics. Great packing job with great care and emphasis on ensuring the item arrived undamaged using minimum packing materials and with conscientious use of recycled materials. Super-fast shipment at reasonable rate and arriving ahead of schedule. Great communication before and after transaction. Highly recommended A+ / 5 Star seller! Definitely one of my new favorite sellers and will purchase from again. Can't say enough praise for this seller. Highly Recommended!!!!!

This sellers "two day" shipping policy is baloney - it took a over five days and repeated emails before this item shipped. I almost thought I would have to request a refund from eBay. That being said, when it did ship, it was nicely packaged and arrived undamaged. I would not buy from this person again because they don't honor their own policies! I can only leave positive feedback because 1) the item DID arrive, and 2) it was as described. The rest wasn't a great experience.

I dislike complaining, but I'm unhappy with this transaction. The deck/book set, described as "like new," was mailed in such a flimsy envelope that it arrived twisted out of shape, to the point where one of the cards was stuck to exposed glue inside. I wrote to the seller about the situation but received no response. I didn't ask for a return because the price wasn't high, but even at this price I expect more care in packaging. (I have ordered other items from this seller that arrived intact.)

  • A fun book, with somethinig for everyone.

This book has so many different projects I think everyone could find at least one they would like. The projects range from simple to complex. I love handmade slippers, so the ballerina slipper project will be my first. I also want to make the camera cozy for my daughter.

  • A great book of ideas

Such a great book, filled with inspiring ideas. A friend of mine had it, and I just needed to have it!
