About this product

Product Information

With his groundbreaking New York Times bestseller The Sword of Shannara and its acclaimed sequels, Terry Brooks brought a new audience to epic fantasy. Then he gave the genre a darkly compelling contemporary twist in his trilogy of the Word and the Void. Last year, in Armageddon's Children, Brooks undertook the stunning chronicle that united two unique worlds. Now that story of clashing forces of darkness and light, of Shannara's beginnings and the human race's possible end, marches forward into an unforgettable second volume full of mystery, magic, and momentous events. Across the ruined landscape that is America-hopelessly poisoned, plague-ridden, burned, and besieged by demon armies bent on exterminating all mortal life-two pilgrims have been summoned to serve the embattled cause of good. Logan Tom has journeyed to desolate Seattle to protect a ragged band of street urchins and the being known as "the gypsy morph," who is both mortal and magical, and destined to save mankind unless he is destroyed. Likewise, Angel Perez has her own quest, one that will take her from the wreckage of Los Angeles to a distant, secret place untouched by the horrors of the nationwide blight-a place where the race of Elves has dwelled since before man existed. But close behind these lone Knights of the Word swarm the ravening forces of the Void. As the menacing thunder of war drums heralds the arrival of the demons and their brutal minions in Seattle, the young survivors who call themselves the Ghosts are forced to brave the dangerous world of gangs, mutants, and worse to escape the invasion. And Logan Tom must infiltrate a refugee compound to rescue Hawk, the leader of the street urchins, who hasyet to learn the truth about who and what he is. Meanwhile, Angel Perez has joined an equally urgent mission: to find the Ellcrys, a fabled talisman crucial to protecting the Elven realm against an influx of unspeakable evil from the dread dimension known as the Forbidding. But Angel and her Elf allies must beware-for a demon spy, with a monstrous creature at its command, walks among them. As the legions of darkness draw the noose tighter, and the time of confrontation draws near, those chosen to defend the soul of the world must draw their battle lines and prepare to fight with, and for, their lives. If they fail, humanity falls.

  • Good Book, Great Author

Another book in Terry Brooks' new series. A good read, especially if you're a fan. He has combined his Shannara series with his Word and the Void series here. I really wish he hadn't. Being a fan of pure Fantasy, I was disappointed and left wanting more Fantasy and less earth-mother type religious ideas and real world settings. Too much is left unexplained and background details are often sketchy. Terry Brooks is my favorite author. I will be reading his stuff forever. I really hope the Shannara stuff goes back to its Fantasy roots and the Word and the Void stuff and modern day settings are left completely out of the next series.

  • The Elves of Cintra by Terry Brooks

The only reason i did not rate this book as excelent is that Mr.Brooks has gotten out of hand with his making a great story into a trilogy in order to bilk his fans out of more money. The Elves of Cintra is a great continuation of the Word & Void trilogy and as part 2 of Armageddons Children (like stated above, too many trilogies!). This latest over-trilogy is starting to evidence connections to the Voyage of Jerle Shannara and the entire Shannara series to make a complete saga spanning millenia. I do think that Mr. Brooks needs to quitt trying to extract more money than his stories deserve with these un-ended books trying to pose as trilogies when all three make one great book... But in this book it is intersting to see the ghosts leave the semi-comfort of their known world and evolve ...

  • The Elves of Cintra

I was initially seeking a copy of this book after reading its prequel and most of Terry Brooks's other fantasy fiction. I had been outbid on several copies before I was finally able to obtain this one. Readers familiar with Terry Brooks's fiction will know that he usually covers a particular story arc in a trilogy of books. The same is true for The Elves of Cintra. It's prequel Armageddon's Children, it, and the next book in the trilogy Dark Wraith of Shanara ( not yet published) serve as a bridge between Brooks's Knight of the Word trilogy and the numerous books in his Shanara series. While explaining how todays' world, the world of John Ross, Knight of the Word, is altered to become the world of the Four Lands in the Shanara books, this trilogy also serves as a warning to humanity. ...

  • TERRY BROOKS BOOKS

The Elves of Cintra is definately a book that is necessary to read as it starts to bring his word and void books into the world of Shannara. Not yet though... we have to continue reading as The Elves of Cintra have brought both worlds into the same time frame but they have not met each other quite yet. keep reading folks...... Actually I am more excited about Terry selling the movie rights to the Word and Void/Shannara AND his Magic Kingdom Trilogy too. With the computer world it will be a big help in bringing his writings to life. I can't possibly imagine only one movie out of all of this- so, perhaps, these "movies" will keep people in suspense just as his books have. Living in the same town as Terry Brooks I know the author as a young attorney. Book after book he astounds me ...

  • Wonderful read!

Terry Brooks doesn't disappoint in this 2nd of the Genesis of Shannara Trilogy. Fast paced with characters I came to love!
