  • Philips DVP5960 Upconverting Dvd Player

I have to say, I'm biased when it comes to this player. I have two of these now, and it's primarily due to the fact that I've given my first one a run for the money - but it just keeps going! It will play any disc I put into it with better up-converting quality than you'd expect from a player in this price range. It's not easy to find a player that plays almost any disc format without a glitch! I also like the fact that the remote is small and easy to use. I've always been impressed with Philips, but this player has really earned my respect - and I own an Oppo and Pioneer Elite! Don't hesitate to buy this model if you're looking for a reliable, all-around, everyday use player!

  • The Pros and Cons of the Philips DVP5960 dvd player

Overall This is a fairly good dvd player. The only problems I have experienced with it, is that the remote and dvd player is slow to respond. Meaning that it takes a few second after hitting a button for anything to happen. Also, the remote has a very short range and is hard to operate. The picture quality is great, but while playing divx movies, they can be just a bit sluggish sometimes, but not enough to notice. The mp3 decoder is really nice. It allows you to burn an mp3 dvd and listen to your songs write off from it. The usb feature isn't too great, because it doesn't support most mp3 players or flash drives I have tried attaching. Overall I would give this product an 8 out of 10 Hope this helps !

  • Philips DVP5960/37 DVD Player

I decided to buy this dvd player for my daughters room to go with her lcd tv. I didn't want to spend a lot for a dvd player with HDMI out. It's not bad for the price but there built as there priced... cheap. Very dull looking menu layout, even more dull remote and looks very cheaply built. It does play well and the picture looks pretty good on a 720 lcd tv. So I guess you can't hold looks against it. Only time will tell on how well it's built. One nice feature is the USB port with supports jpeg, mp3 & divx. It's also nice having 1 HDMI cable instead of running separate RBG, audio etc. depending on your tv's connection capability. If you were going to purchase one for home entertainment system i'd advise something a bit ...

  • Philips DVP5960/37 DVD Player

I bought this DVD player because I wanted to do progressive scan with my new flat screen TV. Very limited features. No vga input at all! So if you try to program the dvd player to do progressive you have to use hdmi, well i only have one hdmi input on my tv which is currently used. Had to carry the machine to another tv to program it and then bring it back. No fast forward or no rewind either and very limited functionality on the flimsy remote. And, then the progressive scan worked very weakly, told by the manufacturer that it doesn't work that well with all HD LCD models! They told me to program the TV for component but not the DVD! After three hours I put this Philips DVD player on my pile of electronic equipment that kindof of works, but really doesn't. Would not ...

  • Great Player for a great Price!

The Philips DVP5960/37 DVD did not disappoint me. Great quality and it plays AVI/DIVX! I also love the fact I can plug in a USB jump drive and play DIVX movies off of this player as well! The USB input is conveniently located in the front...cool! This way I don't necessarily have to burn them on a CD or DVD! I also liked having the HDMI connection to my 42 inch LCD to get an upscaled video. The quality on the upscale is not bad. Not the same as true high definition but not bad esp. for the price. If there was one thing I wish it had and that is the ability to eject DVD's from the remote control. Also the turn on time is a bit slow for my liking. I do like how it will automatically shut it's self off if not used after a while. I recommend this player.
