Non-Spoiler!! As a long time Silent Hill fan, I wanted to try this one out, since the new team of creators stated heavier psychological story. The graphics are decent, with some emphasis on water, obviously, but the surprising part comes from frame rate issues and glitchy camera work. The designers said they were going to create a patch for the Xbox version, but as of this review, almost 9 months after release, there hasn't been one. It gets better as you progress, so if you can manage, just hang on. Another poor design is the save system. The first Silent Hill game to be completely reliant on auto saves (there is NO manual save option), it will fail you many times after completing large amounts of game play. Also gets better as the game progresses, but my advice is to check the load screens to make sure your progress is mostly up to date. Something positive to speak of, the story is mostly engaging, especially if you are a fan of older Silent Hill story lines, which are full of various innuendos and analogies. The subtle clues are the best part to me, as they help with the atmosphere and mystery of the character. As far as the music goes, I am particularly fond of most Silent Hill music to date. Own the first four soundtracks, listened to them many times, they are better than any mainstream band album to me. This game almost utterly fails in this aspect. With no real musical theme to instill in your memory, the game is mostly comprised of background noises compiled with eerie sounds and scores. A mood setter, no doubt, for those new to Silent Hill, but it has you experiencing barely the peak of the emotions music is capable of influencing. I read they hired the composer from the t.v. show Dexter to do the score, and if you've ever seen a sitcom or drama, you'd know this is the exact result you'd get. Short term emotions versus long term emotions. Game play is normal for Silent Hill, some face to face metal rod beating action. There are few more elegant things the creators could have worked out, but you'll get through it. The puzzles have returned, and like in Silent Hill 3, there is even a separate difficulty option for them! Exciting, at least if you like puzzles. Thanks for reading my review, think I covered everything I can remember in non-spoiler fashion. I'd give it a 3 for non-Silent Hill fans, not a whole lot new you might like. For me, I'll give it 4 stars, as it's nice to see at least some aspects that brought everyone to Silent Hill come back in this one.Read full review
Definitely worth the money I spent. Disc was clear of scratches/smudges and case was in a great shape. Gameplay was really fun. Definitely a great game to add to anyone's collection. Zero disc skipping/ audio skipping.

silent hill downpour is a game about riding in a car on family outing to your aunt Anny's house. on the way there your dad turns into mickey mouse and your mom turns into werewolf and that's when you see your sister change in a giant two headed dinosaur that spits cotton candy full of spiders that change you in the superhero silent hill man. who's soul power is shooting swiss cheese out of his nose and yelling for pedigree dog food (but not the can dog food, never the can dog food, never ever.) because if you don't yell for dog food the werewolf will start reading the grapes of wrath while talking like Groucho Marx on a purple lemonade kick and what about Mickey mouse well his still driving like man playing the video game F-Zero and if he stops playing well game over man, game over man, game over man. and that's when you make it to aunt Anny's red, white and blue house that magically changes into the new ride downpour. the endRead full review
One of the most frightening, spooky, scariest versions of Silent Hill ever! Everything in this game will have you on the edge of your seat trying to survive this horrific adventure and even if you survive just wait until you meet "The Wheelman" one of the most frightening bosses ever! This game isn't for the weak of heart, and for those who aren't scared, it's best played in the dark! ;-)
