    Quirky Calypso

    Van Dyke Parks didn't speak well of this album. Then first track "Clang of the Yankee Reaper and the last track ' Canon in D ' are worth the price of admission alone , catchy and powerful . The songs between are primarily cover versions of pleasant island music , easy to listen to and drift away . Some stellar musicians of the day like Jesse Ed Davis , Fred Tackett , Bobby Keys, and Klaus Voorman are in the credits although you can't really pick them out of the mix unless you listen very intently. A nice diversion

    Known as a song writer mainly, this is a fine "stand alone" album.

    If I had a dime for every time I listened to this LP........ But, I'm glad to finally get this on cd! Van Dyke was a major song writing partner with Brian Wilson (think "Heroes and Villains") and others.
