    Great recordings of a great series

    Stunning interpretation of the Robert Graves classic story. A remarkable cast in a sophisticated piece which thoroughly deserves the praise it receives. If you want subtlety and nuance, but also dynamism and power, then this version has it. What it doesn't have is a cast of thousands and the epic scenes of Ben Hur or Spartacus. You get studio sets - and this inevitably means a feeling of the stage rather than the great outdoors. And that's perfect for the conniving world that Claudius moves through where the bedroom is as powerful as the battlefield. This set of DVDs is pretty good quality. I had a chance to borrow the 35th anniversary edition which is supposed to have been cleaned up and remastered. Frankly, I don't believe it has, and in fact that isn't stated on the packaging.     I Claudius - a 2020 review of dated series

    I Claudius, Clearly a product of its time, rather dated, and wooden, albeit with a few well acted parts. The sets seem to have even assembled by the same people who did ‘Crossroads’ or ‘Blake’s seven’ ! Very wobbly, as are some of the characters, but all in all worth watching - once is however sufficient. I have my doubts as to how historically correct this is. There seems to be a distinct lack of characters with ‘crowds’ of no more then ten people, and fast forwards events through major parts of history that are critical to the story, albeit not perhaps important to the Roman court.

    Watched this on tv when it was first aired. This is for my Gransdson as I only have it on video.

    This is probably one of the best movies you will ever see. Acting script. And in fact the whole production is immaculate. I read the book by Robert Graves and this is true to his translation.. I love the covers on the dvd. Thanks a million for keeping this epic available.

    Just brilliant

    Everything about this series is awesome; masterful actors, brilliant script and a story that keeps you watching. Yes, there are no huge battle scenes and the studio settings reflect the age that the series was made. But, if you prefer a great story to cgi 'crash, bang, wallop' this is a must view.
