Works well on battery and XLR. Tonally, sounds a little nasal compare to my Rode NTG-2. A less full-bodied sound than the Rode. The microphone produces a louder background hiss than the Rode, which is audible when you turn up the gain on your mixer. A professional shotgun, like the Sennheiser MKH-416, is totally silent in comparison. This is the difference between spending £32 and £700. The Rode is a good compromise at around £250. This mic is suitable for less exacting requirements like your school concert, but for for recording serious videos or films.
