This was the first camera I ever bought and was a good introduction into the world of video photography. The thing with technology is that it is quickly changing and even though when I bought this it was at the top of its game, at a price of £325.00; come 12 months later, there was something newer out. The camera supports AV connection, S-Video, DV and USB. The beauty of this camera is that yes were there are DVD camcorders now, people are paying up to £24 for DVD mini disc where you can pick up Hi8 videos for this came for £3. Invest in a £8 USB cable and you can easily convert the video to DVD with the use of any modern day computer. Hi8 Videos also offers up to 2hours of record time where mini DVDs at present can only over 30mins; 60mins with the double sided discs. The camera offers an array of features from special effects, surround sound recording, video editing, LCD screen, LED bright light, night light, steady shot, various display modes/ options, up to 8 different capture modes i.e. sport, sunrise/ sunset, beech etc and digital zoom to name but a few. I’ll never forget the looks on my friend’s faces when I showed them my New York City video, where from the top of the Empire State Building I could zoom in to see the face of the statue of liberty! Those of you who have been to, or who know New York can tell you that the statue of liberty is some 30miles away south from the Empire state building. The camera is so easy to use and supports one hand operation. It easy has a button on the side simply labelled ‘Easy’. Pressing this will engage the camera into easy use mode where effectively it operates automatically. This camera is also very durable All in all, this is the perfect first time camera recorder, or just a cheap option for those budding film makers. Thanks to eBay, you will not be paying the £325.00 I did!Read full review
The camera is very compact and easy to use. I have had a sony trv 238 before and wanted a similar model to carry on with the same tape cassettes. The quaulity of the images is very crisp and good colour. Very happy with the 255.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- I bought this used camera because my other one broke after 7 years of being in a humid free environment. It works and its doing its job. Nevertheless, I would not by a new camera form sony again because they do not last and there is no transfer method that can be done at home. I was left with my tapes and no way to transfer them as no adapter was made by Sony. My suggestion is to transfer all the movies to DVd or to another destination ASAP.Read full review
