An interesting precursor to similarly themed takes on the Superman myth such as SMALLVILLE and LOIS & CLARK, THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERBOY emerged in 1988 and lasted for four seasons. In this first season John Haymes Newton played the young Clark Kent (Gerard Christopher was to replace him in later seasons), who attends college and tries to woo Lana Lang (Stacy Haiduk). Superboy better then Smallville
I love this Superboy, Too bad they switch actors for season 2. But I mean it, I enjoy this better then Smallville. I love caped heros. I love the episode with Mister Mxyzptlk played by Michael J. Pollard from Scrooged, House of a 1000 Corpses, so many others.

Superboy Season 1
The first season of Superboy seems to be searching a bit for the first few episodes, but it improves as the season goes on. Stories are SF/Superman enough and the actors seem to jell in their relationships with each episode. Though it's a 25 minute show it has a good story line usually for a shorter program. With college as a background the actors come across well for the setting. It is worth the time and money if you are a Superman fan and like this genre.The first season of Superboy seems to be searching a bit for the first few episodes, but it improves as the season goes on. Great, but often underrated 1st season of Superboy!
I had heard a lot of negative reviews about the first season of Superboy. Many fans of the show seem to prefer the later seasons of Superboy, and Gerard Christopher's portrayal of the character. I watched this show as a kid, and only picked the show near the end of it's televised run. I had seen clips from the first season online, and to be honest, I wasn't sure whether or not I would like it. But I gave this season a chance, and was delightfully surprised with how much I enjoyed it. The first few episodes aren't top notch, but as the season continued it was obvious that the show was gaining momentum. I actually found myself preferring John Haymes Newton's portrayal over Gerard Christopher's portrayal of Superboy. People call this show cheesy, and it is. At the same time, I have to point ... If your a fan of this series, get it. You won't be disappointed.
