I love the camera: I love to use it, it's quick, accurate autofocus is excellent. I've added a battery pack that screws on the bottom that replaces the lithium batteries with 4 AA: they last forever and pack a punch. But, the original body had a problem with film advance: frames overlapped. the camera was replaced under warranty, which I had forgotten I had. Now, after years of use, the mirror does not fully return and the shutter will not release. But I am going to replace it with the same model (so I can use my wonderful Series 1 zoom which I picked up on Ebay for 30 dollars).
I was very pleased with my experience with this camera. I purchased one used as an augment for my Pentax digital camera. I can share lenses and the ZX-50 takes really nice photos. It has a auto frame advance built in. It also has a fairly good flash that pops up. All in all, a nice, modestly equiped automatic 35mm SLR.
What a great dependable 28-80mm film camera. It it very adjustable for any environment. This is a well focused camera near and far. There are many differt lenses that can be attached and applied. The camera also has automatic ajust and automatic time picture taking that is very easy to use with simple controls. Expert,Intermediat, or Beginner this camera is for you.
I wanted to try an auto focus camera that was faster than my OM77AF. It doesn't move as slow as my present camera and I can use my PENTAX K mount lens that I have now. A lot of the older film cameras are perfectly usable and if you like manually setting the exposure and F stops will yield images as good as any digital depending on the lens. If the user will get a CD when they get their film developed you will have the benefits of both systems because you can manipulate the images on a computer directly and you have the benefits of a negative. I pay about $4.50 at the local WALMART for this service and find it works for me perfectly well.
I got into photography right out of high school from working with a small time newspaper. Bought a Pentax K1000 then which I still own today. Loved it and took TONS of pictures with it over the past 20+ years. For me, the ZX-50 is very easy to become accustomed to and take pictures with. Controls are logical and easy to read and understand. I haven't really found anything that I truly "dislike" about the camera so far. I looking forward to and planning on as many years of fun with this one as I did with my K1000!!
