  • Jam packed with information

Rebel Visions is filled with insights, observations and biographical tidbits on all the major underground cartoonists, usually based on interviews with the artists themselves. It jumps from cartoonist to cartoonist in short sections, presenting its story in chronological, year by year fashion. It's compelling and certainly has info you won’t find elsewhere on Crumb, Gilbert Shelton, etc. I did think it lacked any full-blown systematic analysis of the relationship of the comix to the counterculture, the content of the comix beyond sex, the motivations of the cartoonists, etc. it has lots of images you won’t find elsewhere. For those who are very interested in the birth and flowering of underground comix, this is a must have.
