I have wanted this lens for quite a while because it is a useful focal range and it has received great reviews from photographers I respect. As a discontinued product that is still in fairly high demand, it can be hard to find one on the used market for a reasonable price. I was fortunate to find a new old stock copy here on Ebay, and I am very glad that I bought it. It's solidly built, and the image quality is great at all focal lengths and apertures; it fully earns the SP designation Tamron has given it. Sharpness and contrast are superb for a zoom, rivaling the quality of prime lenses. Color rendering is also very pleasing. Some say that the IQ is better at 24mm than at 135, but I have a hard time seeing any difference. It has a zoom lock at 24mm, but I have experienced absolutely no zoom creep while walking around with this lens on my camera. At f/3.5-5.6, it's not a fast lens. However, IQ is so good wide open that it makes up for its lack of speed a bit. For example, if I compare this lens to my Sigma 28-105 f/2.8-4, the Tamron 24-135 is much better wide open, and better overall at any aperture, even though the Sigma is no slacker once it's stopped down a bit. The 24-135 is also considerably better than the Tamron 28-200 IF.Read full review
I have been using this lens for over 3 years taking lots of photos as an amateur photo reporter. The colors look muted and flat, and it simply cannot match modern lenses characteristics. It is also very sensitive to flares. I got great shots only in certain occasions where the light was enough but not opposite of the lens. Although sharp at center, the edges are really bad and I always crop the photo to deal with this. Photos out of this lens need serious photoshopping to stand out. Forget about using it at night. It struggles to focus in low light conditions. I rarely use it anymore as I now shoot with prime lenses. It is a little heavy and bulky but the useful range is what this lens is for. I would only recommend it for someone who wants a cheap and an all purpose walk around lens. Hope my review was useful.Read full review
