With a full terabyte of storage capacity, this drive can hold up to 17,000 hours of music, 1,000 hours of video, or 300,000 high-definition photos. Despite the size of its storage capacity, the drive itself is small. A 2.5-inch form factor makes it ideal for smaller laptops and other devices with an SATA interface. Its 8MB data buffer and spindle speed of 5,400 RPM equate to fast data access and short save times even when you are saving large files. It uses less power than the majority of 3.5-inch hard drives, which helps prolong the battery life of portable devices. Notebooks typically use 2.5-inch drive bays. Serial Advanced Technology Attachment hard disks, also known as SATA, provide efficient resource consumption. This lets your system run smoothly when reading and writing to the HD. The Serial Advanced Technology Attachment interface functions as fast as 6 GB/s. It also allows for easy installation in consumer electronics that are compatible with this device. As a high-performance drive with 1,000 gigabytes (1TB) capacity, the Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1TB HD works very well for providing extra storage on the PS3 and the PS4. The average game can take up anywhere from 1GB to 10GB of space. Higher-end games can take up as much as 60GB. Because of this, a 1,000GB HDD is useful when storing games for your PS3 and PS4. To use this Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1,000GB HDD in your PlayStation 3 or 4, you will need to format the HD to FAT32. Embedded operating systems like the one found in the PS3 and PS4 often make use of FAT32. They do not work with the NTFS format and therefore will not recognize the HD if you format it to NTFS. For your PC, it is recommended that you use the NTFS format for your HD. This hard drive will work with any laptops that have a standard bay and Serial ATA connectors. PCs that use the older PATA interface may still be able to use the HD providing that a converter is used. To identify the interface technology of your system, you should look at the connectors that will be used. If your system has ribbons with a wide, 40-pin connector, then your system uses the PATA interface. If you have the PATA interface, you will need a converter to use the Serial ATA hard disks.       Good value fro the dollar for what you get

      Good value for the money in a par with other drives of this type and similar brands. I buy recycled drives for the laptops I piece together for people pro bono to be used in charity work and cannot pay too much for any of them. This way a good drive for the money and fairy quiet considering the vintage. If you treat them with respect and take them for what they are worth and get them at a good price most of them work well enough to give you the service that you pay for. The bottom line with all recycled products is the value you get for your investment. And so far these drives have met that criteria for me.

      Nice HDD with HUGE Storage

      While this HDD was not a new item, I just had to plug it in and re-format. It only had a few hours of service on it. So far, its function has been just fine. I've installed it in an optical bay drive caddy for backup...loads of backup space. I was going to set it up for dual-boot, dual HDD system, but no luck so far. I just cannot get it to be recognized during boot. I think it is a caddy issue.

      Plug 'n' Play, as they say? Yes, so small, and yet, so BIG! 1T in a card-size drive.

      I am replacing some of the 3.5" HDD that fill my Dell PC, which is only Dell on the outside, as I used only the case to build a monster of a workhorse PC that has 3 HDD, and a serial DVD recorder. I also bought these to use in an enclosure as a DVR for my FTA satellite receiver. There's no more need for a separate power supply to drive the DVR, as these get power through the USB 3.0 hub. I just plug the USB cable into my satellite receiver and begin recording any movie or TV show I view, and I can record approximately 200 movies on one of these little drives. All of my 500G sata drives will be replaced with one of these 1T drives that double the storage space while reducing the clutter and the heat inside of my PC case. I simply initialized the drive in Windows Disk Manager before ...

      I bought this Toshiba drive on past experience of being a computer technician and having worked on Toshiba products for many years. I've found them to be well built, reliable and rugged, and so therefore I didn't hesitate to purchase this drive when I was in the market to upgrade my laptop drive to a much larger capacity drive than was originally installed in my Dell Latitude E6510 laptop.
