Hornby baby.
Great for any age. Only fault I've found, would be even better if it had Remote Control. If you want a smaller track, just leave out the straight rails.

R1215 Hornby Junior Train Set. Groundbreaking to an extent but could be better ...
As an introduction to railway modelling this setup is delightful and a groundbreaking way of introducing youngsters to an unsung world of artistry skill and creativity. Which began for me aged around four and forty one years later I am still at it in OO Gauge and just as entertained as I always have been by this hobby! The groundbreaking factors are that unlike with what I began with which was clockwork and in need of winding up / in danger of over-winding and breaking the mechanism in the locomotive this is battery powered and can run at durations which will maintain and captivate young imaginations. The rolling stock looks very like Virgin Trains livery and is a trainset which can run in either direction (a Multiple Unit with driving cab at either end.) However I was able to expand my ... However I was able to expand my clockwork setup when old enough as the track supplied was compatible with electric train set track and could be reused as part of this later setup. The track supplied with this can't be although it is OO Gauge but it's plastic and clips together rather than using fishplates to join together. This may be a little short sighted in terms of what used to be compared with a present day offering. Also the on/off switch mounted on the roof is a little stiff and cumbersome to operate meaning the power car may fall off the track or have to be removed when activated or to activate. But other than these issues this is a sure fire 8/10 from me!

Perfect for small hands
Does what it says on the box. Provided an ideal introduction to model railways for my four year old grandson. He loves playing with it and he can handle it without fear of bepreaking off small parts because there aren’t any !
