Not too bad - IF you can get it for a CHEAP price (under $10).
This book provides an overview of the weapons, campaign (on PC) game, and the multiplayer online game. Since the instruction manual that comes with the game itself is woefully inadequate, you need a guide or walkthrough to help you understand how the game works. That being said, please dont think that this book is the be all/end all for playing Homefront. It’s OK for the campaign game, but where it is pretty weak is the Multiplayer section, where it explains the workings of using Battlepoints, Command Control, Loadouts, etc. I’m still struggling with this, and I’m at Level 47 out of 75! Its weak, weak, weak. The strategies for playing Multiplayer are also weak - read the book, and if you think you’re going to go online and just tear everyone up, oh, think again. Multiplayer is at least 4 - 5 times harder than Campaign, and the only way to learn is to get shredded over and over. PLEASE realize that there is another factor not listed in multiplayer Homefront - player hacks & cheats. There are some servers that are hacked WITH the Admin’s support and participation (for example, stay away from -]CobraA[| gaming site) and several players that are obviously using software hacks that you’ll find many almost impossible to beat. You’ll hear many players vehemently deny this or that they’re really experienced, but the following may change your mind. Here’s are just a few of a hundred good examples: 1. Please explain how you can unload at least a dozen rounds directly into someones face at close range (15 feet), and they just walk over and kill you. 2. Same thing with a snipers rifle: from 100 yards, shoot someone in the head twice (you are are watching the rounds hit!), and they take you down with a short range SMG. Can you say, “aimbot”? So you move on to another target, and you take that person down using the same weapon and techniques as with the previous target with ease. Hmmmmmm…. 3. And then there is the clown with the assault rifle that repeatedly seems to pop up everywhere (like they have ESP on your whereabouts) you are and shoots you again and again. You leave that server and play on another one, same map (scenario), and you are just tearing up the world, playing against people rated as highly as those on the previous servers. Hmmmmm…. 4. Enemy attack helicopters – they are a pain, but if you and your teammates are persistent, you can take them down….. EXCEPT for some choppers on SOME servers, where you can just pound away at them, you see and KNOW the rounds are tearing into the chopper, and they’ll blow you away over and over without so much as a bit of damage. I mean, 20 or so heavy sniper rounds can easily take down an Apache helicopter (unless they’re hacked), but theres SOME little scout helicopters out there that you and a teammate could shoot at over and over, and they couldn’t be taken out with a nuke! You’ll die quickly and die often. Gee, I just wonder why… To be fair to Homefront, some of this MAY be caused by the numerous flaws in the game software. I once shot a Marine at point blank range five times into his left temple (blood even flew!), then he turned and stabbed me to death. Another time, I walked up on an enemy sniper, and shot him three times (including the head) with my sniper rifle, whereupon he became bored, turned around, and killed me. It’s your decision whether you want to invest in the Homefront guide. Not bad for the campaign, not that helpful for Multiplayer.
