Adrian Monk (Shalhoub) is San Francisco's most brilliant detective, but is unable to serve on the police force because of his crippling neuroses and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, he continues his investigations independently, often solving cases before the actual police are able to do so, and always seeking out clues to the unsolved murder of his wife. The combination of comedy, mystery, and a distinctively eccentric character have led many to dub MONK the successor to COLUMBO. This release includes the entire fifth season of the show, with episodes featuring guest stars such as Stanley Tucci, Sean Astin, Chi McBride, and Sharon Lawrence. This set also features both black-and-white and color versions of neo-noir episode "Mr. Monk and the Leper."

    Thoughtful and entertaining

    I love this show. I actually saw it for the first time on You Tube last year. As I did not subscribe to cable in decades, I missed this gem of a series. I loved Tony Shaloub since he played in the show "Wings" His character Antonio, was hilarious on that show. Monk is very endearing, and although it is amusing at times, you can really see how this ingenious sleuth suffers with the challenges of OCD and his traumatic memories of his wifes death. Its a PG series ( that's my rating) so it is pretty safe for the whole family but not for very young ones as some of the opening crime scenes can be a little disturbing. I highly recommend it. The lead charactars in the show do a great job in delivering very real but warmhearted performances.
