I don't know what all the hype was about this movie, but some love it. This is not one of my favorite movies and I love Sy-Fy. As for the product it came in great condition, but watch this movie before buying it.

The Best of True Science Fiction
When I first learned about science fiction, I was in grade school in the 1960s. I loved all the old movies and shows on TV, famous stuff from the late 1950s and early 1960s, with the alien monsters, visits to other planets, robots that talked, time travel, and the concept of an infinite universe with other beings. It makes me think of When Worlds Collide, THEM!, Man with the X-Ray Eyes, The Time Machine, and of course the original Star Trek, and so many others. As time progressed, however, the definition of science fiction somehow changed. What was known as horror and occult supernatural stuff somehow made the grade to being called "sci-fi." BUT it's not true science fiction in my book. Once in a great while, a true sci-fi movie would come around. Independence Day was one of them. The ... The ultimate encounter when mysterious and powerful aliens launch an all out invasion against the human race. The spectacle begins when massive spaceships appear in Earth's skies, disrupt satellite communications, attack major cities, and send our world into darkness. Extinction is inevitable. With excellent -- no, spectacular special effects, we cringe in our seats and fear the worst. But then...a surprise ending. Who'd think that a computer virus would save the day! It's a great escape movie and one that is welcomed in the times we live in. 'Tis a classic good-feel movie with incredible acting by Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum. Not to mention a president of whom we all would love, Bill Pullman, and a wonderful breaking-the-sterotypical-Taxi TV show character, Judd Hirsch. It has a lot of favorite actors and all are powerful and perfect in their roles! I recommend this movie to mature kids and grandparents alike. It is just, well... stellar!

Independence Day-DVD
The Independence Day DVD was a great buy. We had the older VHS version, but that was starting to get jumpy and distracting. With the new DVD the action flows smoothly and the plot is not disrupted. I would recommend this purchase to anyone who is trying to replace their old VHS collection. The acting is very good and Randy Quaid and Bill Pullman do a realistic job: and their supporting roles highlight natural abilities that Will Smith brings to the screen. Jeff Goldblum is ideal as a lovelorn scientist who finds that satisfaction in life is more important than success; a moral lesson that might get lost in the plot, but one that is of value to all.The Independence Day DVD was a great buy. Action and Emotional Content Hold My Interest
Independence Day is on of the few movies that I want to see again and again, so I finally bought the DVD so I do not have to wait for a TV rerun. There are several reasons I like the movie Independence Day. I will just mention a little about the plot, the theme, the actors, and how the movie makes me feel. Though the plot, of course, no longer reveals surprises for me, as I know what will happen, the action and humor hold my interest and I still feel the suspense. I suppose the movie appeals to my psychological and emotional hope that humans will work together to overcome obsticles to freedom and independence. Or maybe it is just that the good guys, with whom I identify, win against, seemingly, insurmountable odds. Another factor I like the actors. They make the characters believable ... Independence Day is on of the few movies that I want to see again and again, so I finally bought the DVD so I do not have to wait for a TV rerun.
