This collection of episodes from the Australian-produced,U.S.broadcast television show of the 1950's is, considering it's age, of surprisingly good quality, plus-it's in COLOR!The show was spin-off of the film "Long John Silver's Return to Treasure Island",(itself a non-Disney continuation of Long John and Jim Hawkin's exploits after the original Treasure Island adventure)and features the same cast of charectors, most notably Robert Newton's Long John Silver. The action takes place mainly on the Caribbean island of Porto Bello,although various episodes take place entirely aboard ship, or trekking through the ... Swaggering first mate Patch, Burly Big Eric, cranky Old Stingley, and brave-but-not-so-bright Trip Fenner(who, incidently, had the Best Pirate Hair of the 20th Century. Seriously, check out his wild 'do if you need inspiration before next Talk Like A Pirate Day).And Purity Pinker, Long John's tavern-keeper sweetheart,who holds her own with the boys and has some of the best lines any female has ever had in a pirate show.This DVD is a true discovery; in particular, anyone who has children and wants something fun and exciting but without modern vulgar language, nudity, or graphic violence would probably be pleased.Adults will enjoy this too, truly escaping into another time.Word of caution,however-this DVD is of a show that is over 50 years old,and while the quality is good considering that, be prepared for some ropiness , and perhaps a need to turn up the volume to hear the great dialogue clearly. Also,it contains some British colonial trash-talk about the French and Spanish in the Caribbean.But if you love pirates(and who doesn't?)I highly recommend this fun DVD.Arrgh, matey, 'tis a treasure!
