Sounds great, but drones and doesn't fit well
For the money, I doubt you will find a better stainless steel catback system. However, there are some setbacks that stop me from wholeheartedly recommending this exhaust without a note of caution. First of all, whilst this is no doubt intended to fit my car (n52 engine e86 BMW Z4 Coupe), it is not very well made to fit the space the OEM exhaust system occupied. It would not be difficult to find a volunteer within the community to work with to make sure this exhaust definitely fits, because as it stands right now, the reputable exhaust specialist who fitted mine said that the fit was awful. He had to get my permission to modify the symmetrical pair of mounts on the exhaust to fit to the existing brackets on the car. The black mounting plate that these two attach to also had to be cut to ... For the money, I doubt you will find a better stainless steel catback system. However, there are some setbacks that stop me from wholeheartedly recommending this exhaust without a note of caution. The black mounting plate that these two attach to also had to be cut to make space for the exhaust or it would have been resting/knocking the mounting plate. Furthermore, the clearance of the backbox on the side closest to the nearside rear left tyre is lacking. I am currently without the bracket on that side, but with the bracket installed correctly (to bring the backbox into the level position) it seems the backbox will actually be touching the heat shielding. Not good! Onto the positives. The stainless steel exhaust genuinely sounds great - arguably much better than the popular backbox modification, the backbox delete or even the backbox mod/res delete combo. The actual welds and materials used seem high quality especially considering the price. I can't honestly say that there isn't significant drone - the car vibrates a lot and whilst personally I think it is more than manageable, it could get annoying if you drive a lot or use your car as a daily (and have a longish commute). However, the volume level is excellent without risking you an asbo. Cold starts are never boring - you're rewarded with a nice deep, meaty growl, and every gear change or lift-off gives you anything from a satisfying crackle to full-blown pops (but never nothing). On the rough 'volume scale' I've devised below I'd say this exhaust is comparable to the backbox delete, perhaps just below: Stock < Backbox Mod < Backbox Mod/res delete < Backbox delete So in conclusion: Pros: + Much louder, but not anti-social + Crackles, pops on gear changes and lift-off + Welds and materials seem good quality + Stainless steel gives much better exhaust note than the OEM system mods + Price (but don't pay full price!) Cons: - Drone could be annoying for daily drivers - Doesn't fit very well - Increased cost of fitting due to modifications needed Photo 1: Red lines show where the black mounting plate had to be cut to allow exhaust to pass through Photo 2: Blue lines represent approx angle the mounts on the exhaust itself were at before having to be cut and modified to be level and fit to the black mounting plate.
