The Amazing De-Lovely
I ordered De-Lovely because I am a great admirer of Mr.Kevin Kline's work. Every time I have seen him acting I have been marveled by his performance. I have read his biography, he is a great stage performer of all the great classics, including Shakespeare. I am sorry that I have never seen him on stage, I have read the reviews of his plays, and I am hoping that one day he will come to London to perform.I have several of his films, and one in particular which is Hamlet, he was magnificent in it, with an extraordinary cast. De-Lovely kept me glued to my TV which is over 30 years old but wouldn't change it for anything else. De-Lovely tells the story of Cole Porter the great american jazz composer. In my opinion it's infinitely better than an earlier film with Cary Grant and Alexis Smith ... I ordered De-Lovely because I am a great admirer of Mr.Kevin Kline's work. De-Lovely gives us a much better picture of what Cole Porter was like, charmingly gay and also rather complicated, his great love for Linda his wife, but more important his enormous contribution to music in the early 1900 till around the 1960's. The songs interpreted by well known singers throughout the film, are amazing and so is the choreography and stage designs. Kevin Kline's interpretation of Cole Porter is extraordinary, and Ashley Judd it sheer joy to watch. I am a film fanatic and have watched thousands of films in my life, but this one has really touched my heart. I can only say, thank you Kevin Kline, thank you Ahsley Judd, and also to the director Irwin Winkler and his film crew for giving us such joy, and give us hope that there is still great films to be made!

De-Lovely .... Cole Porter
This is a super film if you enjoy Cole Porters' songs! I first saw this film on a chance matinee with my old Ma and was enthralled, completely taken away, transported from the introduction, on a journey of Cole Porters' life and music. I had first heard of Cole Porter when I was a teenager listening to an old LP I'd found of Ella Fitzgerald singing The Cole Porter Songbook ( Which I would also recommend - a young Ellas' voice at her best!) I loved it so much that I read up on Coles' complex life. I was Delighted that De-Lovely was Delectably Delicious... It begins with Cole looking back on his life, with an authentic atmosphere of the era, showing his loves, pleasures, success and pain. Bringing his emotions and thoughts through his lyrics delivered throughout the telling of his story by ... This is a super film if you enjoy Cole Porters' songs! De-Lovely DVD
I purchased this DVD as a christmas present for my parents, and they love it. The film is fantastic, beautifully acted by all and the music and songs are all great, especially a cameo preformance by Robbie Williams, who does all the peirod stuff so well and always looks the part. The role of Cole Porter is played by Kevin Kline, and he is excellent. He plays him from a young man, right up unil his death. Lesley Judd portrays Linda Lee, his wife, and they work extremely well together. As well as Robbie Williams there are a number of other famous faces including Elvis Costello and Sheryl Crow, treating us to the delights of many of Cole Porter's well known songs. This film is a must for anyone who is a fan of Cole Porter's music or enjoys any period films as the attention to detail is ... Delightful!
I loved everything about this film except for the first five minutes feeling that it was a little contrived. Once the company started started singing on stage I was hooked and couldn't leave it until the last of the credits finished. Cole Porters variety of musical styles and the cleverness of his lyrics were shown off to their full potential by a cast who put in tremendous performances. With Robbie Williams, Lemar, Elvis Costello, Natalie Cole, Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crowe and even Mick Hucknal all getting in on the act. Kevin Kline who I feel is often underated once again turns in an excellent perfomance as does Ashley Judd who brings a smile to my face whenever I see her.I loved everything about this film except for the first five minutes feeling that it was a little contrived.
