Following the procedure outlined on eBay I first drilled into the head to create a hole for the extractor to use. The "drill bit" head of the extractor tool was not really biting very well, despite extra pressure on the drill bit. I decided to use my own fine drill bit to create the hole - this worked. I then used the "extract" end of the extractor tool to pull out the damaged screw and that worked very well. Thanks.

I managed to make one good unit out of the two damaged units and seller immediately sent out a new third unit. The sign of a good seller is not that things don't go wrong but that they are resolved quickly and satisfactorily... in this case 10/10 for this seller would certainly buy from them again.
