Ring is original Japanese movie based on the Ring trilogy books by Koji Suzuki. The movie is about a cursed video tape that lasts around a minute long, subjecting the viewer to series of strange images, which damns anyone who watches to a horrifying death in exactly seven days, unless the viewer finds out how to lift the curse and free themselves from Sadako's death sentence. Sadako is a said to come and claim the victims after their time is up. But there's the snag, the video tape doesn't tell you how to break the curse. Asakawa is investigating the strange deaths and finally finds out about this mysterious video tape that kids claim to be causing the deaths, after watching it, Asakawa realizes that this is no school kid prank - the curse of the video tape is real. She calls on Ryuji, a cognitive genius to help her find out how to break the curse. Ryuji is an odd man, who fears nothing. His first reaction is "Yeah, so anyway, show me this video." Asakawa shows Ryuji the video, and the struggle begins, they have 7 days.. The movie has no real gore or violence. But after someone's seven days is up, and their TV suddenly turns on, with Sadako walking towards the screen, at point when she begins to climb through the screen into the real world, you will crap your pants. On the surface, the film seems to have a very supernatural feel, but that's the great thing about this movie, so many questions are left unanswered. You can watch the movies and read the books over and over, and find new answers and theories each time. You will become hook to story, and if you follow the story meticulously, you'll find a scientific explanation for every bizarre event. Strange as that might sound, it will take a long time to come to that realization. That's the beauty of this film, nothing is as it seems, and there no real answers. Just possibilities. Ryuji Takayama is killed by Sadako at end of the movie, but still manages to be the protagonist of three installments, and it's all explained scientifically, but there's still that paranormal feel lurking. You have to make your own mind as to what truly lies behind the curse and Sadako. Buy this film, and watch it. Then buy Ring 2, and then get the books, starting with Loop (Ring 3), Spiral (Ring 2) and finally Ring. Then make up your own mind.

Fear comes on Video :)
I have been watching oriental films recently and have been getting into the horror side. I'm a true horror fan and am sick by the recent influx of gore. Gore doesn't equal fear or a good film. The only place for gore is on a good zombie flick. The film is gripping but it does leave a few questions about the film unanswered until the final film of the series. But don't let that put you off this film is really good. It revolves around the story of people dying having the look of true fear on their faces. It emerges that a video that all the people have watched has something to do with it. A reporter tries to solve the mystery and ends up with the curse on her head. In a race to save her son she tries to solve the puzzle. Great story, great atmosphere. Ring, the brilliant Japanese original horror film
This is the original Japanese ring film that the american film 'the Ring' was based on. It's one of the best horror films ever made, and spawned rather a cult following in Japan. Truly original and frightening. Unmissable.
