Well, the 1st odd thing I noticed about this film was in the credits. You would expect a film of this title would have a large female cast & yet the ratio of guys to girls was 21 to 9! NOT a very good ratio! The film starts unbelievably slow & never really picks up. In fact, it's absolutely boring! There is no action, the special effects are terribly poor & a good deal of the acting is sub par. They also use a lot of stock Air Force footage that really doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense? The sets are straight out of the original Star Trek series as far as quality is concerned & they use a lot of equipment that probably was not used for the purposes they say they are. If you've made it this far, I will give you the premise of the film. Mars is indeed populated. A genetic defect has caused them to lose the Y chromosome causing their female population to dwindle to a ratio of 100 men for every woman (Much like this film!) They need to restock their female population with Earth women. It gets a little weird from here. In the beginning, 3 women disappear. The Martians tell us that they tried to abduct them via a transporter, but failed. That is the last we hear of these women so we never find out their fate. Now, after admitting that they tried to steal women, they ask the Eartyh to supply them with 5 female volunteers. Yeah right! We of course refuse to which they reply they will take their 5 any way they can. another ultra boring stretch follows as they land, we try to find them & they start their search. This leads to the next rather odd part of the film. One Martian goes into a strip club in search of his mate. The strip club has as many women in it as men! & I don't mean performers either. This film was made in the late 60s, but long before the hippie movement so seeing a bunch women lined up to see a strip show is a bit unnerving! The strip scene itself is fair & NO, she doesn't get naked! The women are kidnapped via hypnosis & we actually never really see them get abducted. One by one they are plucked away, most in broad daylight in crowded public areas. The leader sets his sights on geneticist & space sex expert (your guess is as good as mine?) Dr Bolen played by former Batgirl Yvonne Craig. The leader falls for Bolen & in a tear jerking finale (yeah right!) he is forced to leave her behind. The ending is as anticlimactic as the whole film & finishes rather abruptly. The cast is of course ladened with unknowns. Craig is really the only name actor. Disney & B movie veteran actor Tommy Kirk plays the Martian leader & another former Disney veteran, Pat Delaney, plays one of the abductees. That is about it for star power here. I got this film confused with another "Martian abducting Earth's women" movie Frankenstein Meets The Spacemonster which is much better in terms of action, tongue in cheek humor, scantily clad women, plot & acting. Don't make the same mistake I did & waste your hard earned money! Stay away from Mars Needs Women!Read full review
