Although this book was touted to me for some time as a definitive source on Early Hawaiian Religion (pre-Christian), I was sadly dissapointed. Melville appears to have been attempting to compare and show how closly the ancient religions of the people compared to present Christian beliefs and start an entirely new belief system. All but two of the early stories presented are so full of modern Christian inuendos that it is actually disgusting. This book is an insult to the Hawaiian people in general and thier rich heritage in particular. How sad it is to find someone who will create so called "sources" in order to further thier own agendas while destroying something as beautiful as the traditional Hawaiian beliefs.
