This photo book by Mick Rock captures "Madcap Laughs" era Syd perfectly. A reader can see the sad, subtle and not so subtle changes in Syd's personality as the pages are turned. The book is respectful without being gushing and contains well written remembrances of Syd by the author. The photos mostly consist of Syd in his flat with a freshly painted floor that Syd had painted just for the photo shoot. Also featured are rare photos of Syd hamming it up with his car. The car was eventually sold with one wheel well up on a block and was towed by the new owners as Syd never actually drove or moved the car at all. Later photos consist of Syd hanging out in his Mother's garden in Cambridge. These are the photos that show a more disheveled, tired looking Syd. Though Syd manages to smile in some of the photos, the overall ambiance is depression and misanthropy. I advise all Syd fans to buy this book as it features many rare photos that are not available anywhere else. This hardcover book is excellent.Read full review
