Additional Information
Sacha Baron Cohen brings his Borat character to the big screen with this feature length adaptation of his American exploits. Fans of DA ALI G SHOW will already be familiar with the devilishly simple Borat formula, in which the heavily moustachioed TV host from Kazakhstan dupes a number of unwitting citizens into revealing their deepest prejudices, and this movie takes that premise, stirs in a little narrative structure, and serves a side-splitting mirth-fest. The action begins with Borat travelling to America alongside his producer Azamat Bagatov (Ken Davitian). After a hotel room viewing of BAYWATCH, Borat decides he must travel to California to woo Pamela Anderson, so he and the long-suffering Azamat take a cross-country road trip in an ice cream van, encountering some funny, disturbing, and deeply strange individuals along the way. SEINFELD producer Larry Charles lends his directing talents to BORAT, and he gets the balance between the loosely threaded plot and BoratÆs encounters with real Americans exactly right. At times the movie threatens to topple over into glorious anarchy, with each situation escalating to ridiculously funny extremes, but Charles knows exactly when to put the brakes on and progress to BoratÆs next encounter--although the police are called at the tail-end of one memorable sequence. Keen-eyed viewers will notice some repetition from the TV show, with Borat once again going to a rodeo and again taking etiquette lessons, but itÆs almost as if Cohen treats each of these set-pieces as a comedic æbitÆ he is working on, gradually adding further delirium every time he goes back for another shot. Sometimes itÆs difficult to tell who, if any, of BORATÆs participants are actors, but it matters little when the material is this gut-wrenchingly funny, and itÆs testament to CohenÆs talents that heÆs managed to take a marginal supporting character from his TV show and turned him into a genuine cultural phenomenon.

  • A Borat docu-drama

The reason this film worked was an expectation from Ali G's creator and the fact that most of us knew Borat from a sketch or two. It was painfully funny a couple of times but most of the time the humour was taking the mickey. Plenty of smiles inside. It made me laugh, but humour is individual. Hope you find it entertaining!

  • Borat, the Good, the Bad and the funny!

I watched this at the cinema and it was so embarrassing but laugh out loud that I knew I had to buy it on DVD. Borat aka Sacha Baron Cohen has created (I think) some of the most cringe worthy moments this year in the movies, or any year for that matter! The part at the start of the film in his village with his ancient looking mum (who’s only 42) and also the "town rapist" really are genius! The actual plot line is quite simple, Borat who is a presenter on Kazakhstan TV is visiting America (or as he says "the US of A") to learn how to make his own country better. It looks very home made in places, but this only adds to the mood being generated. He tries to show how ignorant American people are and this adds up to side splitting funny moments. On the second disc of the movie there are ...

  • BoraT

All I can say is watch it with an open mind! Not for Children! Great Adult film!!! I have watched this a few times and find it so funny from an adults point of view. Certainly not one for the kids to watch alot of nudity and bad language. I do think 'Borat' does go a little bit too far with some of the un knowing victims but they must have agreed for it to be made into a film! I bought this as if theres not alot on tv like normal you can watch this over and over again and still be entertained!!! Overall a great saturday night adult film :-)

  • Borat - Cohen

Some people will love this film, I am not one of them. I feel Cohen takes comedy to another level which is revolutionary, however I feel this style of comedy if indeed this is what it can be called, will be seen as offensive and a step to far by many. Perhaps I am missing something, but the film seems to assume that the entire basis of comedy should only be about the shock value and how to offend ones nationality, sex, creed etc. Perhaps Cohen tries to have us all laugh at ourselves and our beliefs, and through his film tell us it doesnt really matter. Draw your own conclusion, Perhaps I just dont get it. Apart from my opinions regarding the comedy, I was bored very quickly with this film.

  • Borat, how outrageous !!!

I had heard a lot about Borat and wanted to see for myself. It is a blokes film, make no mistake. Some parts are really funny, some cringingly embarassing and all out of order. The naked fight took some stomaching, but overall the film is good. Not sure where reactions were really or staged, but watch it anyway, best with a beer. Wanted to see if OK for children to watch (14 and 12), it is not !!! Cheers Ritchie.
