This is a recording which includes everything-all the master analog tape content made on June 25, 1961. Previous albums made such as Waltz For Debby and Sunday at the Village Vanguard don't include everything. I have have been listening to these two albums, and there are others from this date, for 15 years. My cds now skip in a few spots. It was this and the fact that no song was left out which is why I bought it. So for the retail price of two cds I replaced my two with a complete recording of the June 25 Vanguard session. To me, even after 15 years of listening, it hasn't got old. The ideas, technique and blending of these three musicians on this recording is a plateau in jazz. In other words, even 45 years later, much of the jazz world seems bland by comparison.
All 3 cds play together as if they were recorded at one time. But seriously folks, this beautiful music. I put it on my reel to reel so it plays in one duration like the live recording should. Anyway, if you like jazz piano, well.....

My Jazz collection isn't huge, consisting of around 170 LPs and CDs. Why this performance set wasn't a part of it sooner is sad indeed. This is an excellent box set. Legendary performance recorded by one of the great recording engineers. Sound quality is excellent. Most audiophiles will be more than happy. This should have been one of my first 10 Jazz purchases.

Classic, haunting, a must listen for all those who appreciate the fact that the trio would be no more with the death of the bass player, Scot Lafaro a couple weeks later. Evans was distraught and could not play for quite a while after this incident. The last recording of a bygone era juxtaposed in an indifferent and small crowd on a Sunday in New York reminds us of the ghostly transient nature of American jazz culture at it height with all its nostalgia cloaked within those mean steets.
I have had the original single Lp for decades. One of the legendary Bill Evans best known records so no news here. This box set includes two more discs from the same day and different enough to make it worth having.
