About this product

Product Information

In 1972, two seconds were added to time. It was in order to balance clock time with the movement of the earth. Byron Hemming knew this because James Lowe had told him and James was the cleverest boy at school. But how could time change? The steady movement of hands around a clock was as certain as their golden futures. Then Byron s mother, late for the school run, makes a devastating mistake. Byron s perfect world is shattered. Were those two extra seconds to blame? Can what follows ever be set right?

  • A story of love, loss, grief and forgiveness and time. Just 2 seconds .... in those 2 seconds anything can happen

Somewhat darker than her previous work, the story centres on a dysfunctional family the Hemmings, Byron is an English school boy living with his mother and sister in a country house. Byron's father Seymour works in the City and only comes home to see his family at the weekends. Though his work pays for the big house, the Jaguar that his wife drives and the private education his children receive, he is, in reality, only a visitor in their lives. • Boring

I loved the pilgrimage of Harold Fry and bought this as the second book by this author but it was boring and I didn't finish it.

  • A good read

Brilliant author....so well written. She writes about ordinary day to day life but somehow makes it compelling reading.

  • Drivel.

Simply one of the poorest written books it has ever been my misfortune to read. I got only as far as the third paragraph and found it impossible to struggle further with it. It does not merit even the single star.
