    Patlabor 1 and 2

    The Patlabor films follow a group of specialist police in Japan in the near future. The sub-division that the story concentrates is Patlabor, Patrol labors (manned robots), keeping the peace in a society utilizing manned robots (labors)for everything, from construction to the military. I honestly think the subject of manned robots has never been treated so realisticly. Patlabor 1 and 2 are directed by Mamoru Oshii, a legend in animated film direction. These films are naturally very similar to other films from the same production team, Ghost in the Shell (1 and 2), Jin Roh: Wolf Brigade, Blood the Last Vampire, and many others. While they do have action sequences, the story is the main element, not action. The plot of Patlabor is deep, story development and detail are the real draw here, ...

    Patlabor 1 & 2

    I have been a keen anime fan since I saw Akira back in 1992, so by then I had missed out on quite a few flicks! I managed to glimpse Patlabor but never fully took it in. I bought the box set to boost my dvd collection and I'm proud of this addition as it is a timeless masterpiece that, for its date of release in 1989, is well ahead of it's time and is a fair representation of the world and the politics within it today! The thinking man/woman's action anime. Watch it at least once.
