Quality product, easy to use, good sharp pictures. Be advised: it is bigger than the camera and on the heavy side, and seems a bit slow to focus. Because of which it is a bit slower to handle than I would recommend for action shots. I don't use it for action shots, so it is a moot point for me, but it might be important for some others. It could be my personal experience and different for others. Other than this caveat it is a high quality lens and I highly recommend it. There is a variant on this model, the LE version, which is a bit lighter.

I got this lens used, and it isn't particularly clear. It's okay for an entry-level long zoom, but not really much better than the much cheaper standard 55-210 kit zoom lens except for the wider range and a little faster glass. Other reviews indicate that it's better if you get a clearer copy, but obviously not all of them are equally good, especially used.

I bought this to serve as the one basic lens for my newly acquired NEX-5N. I am strictly an amateur photographer with no pretensions of being able to judge lens quality, except in terms of ease of use. To that end, I can say forthrightly that this lens does the job it was purchased to do, that is, serve as a one lens solution with adequate range to meet almost all my particular shooting needs. Although not big for this type of zoom, it does kind of overwhelm the tiny camera body with its size and does make the whole rig uncomfortably heavy for someone who is not used to lugging around an SLR. However, since I shoot mostly indoors, the range of this lens is just about right for all my needs (a tad more at the wide end would would be ideal). From my amateur perspective, this lens takes good photos and allows me to get the most out of what I bought the NEX-5N for in the first place. I wish there were a little less distortion in wider angle shots, but all big zooms I have used seem to suffer from that, and this one is no exception. I wish it were smaller and lighter (and cheaper), but for what my camera system can now do, I am more than happy with it. You need a separate extender to use the flash with this lens, but I bought this camera (NEX-5N) for the purpose of shooting without flash, so that problem is not one that bothers me, at least not yet.Read full review
If you are considering this lens, but are on the fence about it, you just need to go ahead and make the purchase. Anyone who knows anything about photography understands the importance of a good lens. I recently went on a 11-day trip to South America and shot with the NEX-5 body (with the 18-55mm lens) and the Canon 60D (with the 18-135mm lens). I had close to 2000 exposures on the NEX-5 during the trip, so spent some good time playing with all the features. Many of the photos came out better than I was expecting for the NEX-5, with some comparable to the shots taken with the 60D, but mostly falling short. Impressed with the features of the NEX-5, I felt it was capable of more and guessed that the lens was what was holding it back. So after returning home I purchased this lens and tried it out at several kids' birthday parties, a sporting event, and a family outing. All I have to say is, "Wow!" What a difference this lens makes - the photos now come alive on this camera! The processor on the NEX-5 is MUCH slower than on the Canon 60D, which holds the NEX-5 back while auto-focusing (esp. while zoomed), BUT the photos are coming out SO much better overall! I wish I had this lens on the trip to South America. I believe it would've made a huge difference in the photographs. While this is a bit more expensive than similar lenses for other camera bodies, the resulting images are worth the investment. I purchased through Cameta Camera as they provide quite a few extras with the lens. Bottom line: If you can afford this lens and are serious about getting more from the NEX body, this lens is a must have.Read full review
I'm using this on a Sony Nex-7. Most of the lenses I use on that camera are Leica Ms, used with an adapter. So, the Sony is the only one that has the autofocus feature and which shows the f-stop on the monitor screen. My major complaint about the lens is that it is slow to focus, which may be a feature/fault of all autofocus lenses, I don't know, I only have the one. It is especially annoying when one is attempt to shoot candid street shots of people in motion. The lens can't focus if anything in the shot is moving. There's no manual way to focus it and maybe there could and should be.
This is one great lens. It completes the camera. Focus and detail are perfect throughtout the range. In my opinion it is overpriced as there are adaptors availabe to use cheeper existing lenses even though autofocus is not available. I like the convienence of using just one lens for everything. For my shooting habits this is my choice. I will use this camera and lens for traveling as it is compact and flexible for my family shots. For professional results I might choose larger equipment. Price is soon forgotten when quality results are produced. :) This is a great product.
I personally liked this lens quite a bit. We visited Yellowstone and Glacier national parks recently. I was looking for on lens for wide and zoom, to prevent constant swapping. This lens delivers both and is portable. I just wish it would support more wider angles.

Pros: it's everything in one. Not swapping lenses as much. Works ok with the a6500. Great for travelers. Large but not too bulky. Cons: f/4 maximum is not ideal in low light. Not as sharp as my 10-18 or my Minolta 50mm. Heavy. That lens creep is very annoying. Not sure if here's a fix for lens creep(when angling the camera downward gravity pulls the zoom downward). Overall happy about having an all in one lens. I definitely wouldn't purchase this at final retail value which goes around 800-900. But $400 is justifiable.

I'm using this lens on a Sony A6000, mirrorless camera. Its range and sharpness is excellent. Great value at $325. It's now my everyday goto lens.

This is a great small sensor lens that works quite well on a full frame A7. Did some tripod tabletop floral shots with two flashes and was quite happy with the results. You wouldn't guess it is for the smaller sensor. Only one negative, it has lens creep. A small trade off for the quality. Use the lens lock.
