I've read all 3 of these books (obviously this is the third-duh) , it seems pointless to review this because if youve read this far you are not going to stop at the second book! Although each ends of as though it could be fully self contained..I dont think ideally you should read the later ones without reading the others-this would be hard to read in isolation I dont consider myself much of a reader but a daily commute has meant I need something to occupy me and this trilogy makes it hard to get up and off the train! Lots of twists and turns and everything is connected- it opens out like an enormous map. theres definitely been times you think certain characters are just not going to make it out and you are definitely on the edge of your seat, you never feel like you couldnt care less what happens to anyone no matter how small an element. Sometimes a lot of characters can be confusing I find (not a reader as I say) but here each is so distinctive you dont lose your way Larsson does have some funny little quirks he always makes a point of describing what people order in restaurants!?!? which is endearing but sadly he also feels the need to make fetishistic reference to hardware such as computers mentioning models and all that and one sometimes wonders if he was sponsored by mac (bit annoying) I would also say that this is the first time I've read a book theyve made into a film (its quicker to watch the film innit?) and as regards the american film it really doesnt follow the book well at all and made little sense to me even having read the book! (the swedish films seem better) I'm also amazed to say I enjoyed the books more than the film! The series ends well enough considering at that point you dont know what youre going to read instead/and desperatley dont want it to, one wishes theyd bring out another but as the author tragically died theres little chance of that.Read full review
I bought the set of 3 books for holiday reading, to lie on the beach and enjoy the sun. I got through 2 1/2 in 2 weeks and finished the last at home. Better to read the set in sequence but you could start at book 2 & make sense of it all. Don't worry too much about the fine detail and make up your own names if your Swedish is a little rusty / non existent. As I read it the book showed signs of breaking apart from the spine but survived for my wife to read. It represents reasonable value for money and saved me a trawl around the charity shops, thank you eBay! The first in the series takes half the book to describe the characters and situation but keep going. Someone's got some inside info.
A most unusual heroine and hero, which means the story takes over and you're caught in the inevitable consequences of each persons actions. Beautifully translated into the English.

It is absolutely brilliant, can’t put it down. All the characters are described in fully, & one can imagine every detail. It’s the final instalment, & doesn’t disappoint. It’s so original, tense & a page Turner.

To be able to follow the story, you should read the trilogy in order as the tale progresses from the first through the second to the third. Another romping good story - no idea how accurate the historical Swedish details are but it doesn't spoil the tale.

Got engrossed in the previous book on holiday, as soon as was home had to order the next one in the trilogy, Its one of them books which jumps from present time to years ago, it is easy to get a bit lost if you arent concentrating, but i just read a couple of pages a couple of times to get back into it, Very addictive.
