Famous German film maker Werner Herzog has many a times been compared to German legendary film maker F.W. Murnau, and you can see why after his retake on Nosferatu. This film is not a simple remake, but a revision of Nosferatu and Dracula. The names have all been changed from Murnau's film to the original names of Stoker's novel. We remain with the look and feel Murnau captured, but fine tune it to a masterpiece. Some scenes feel a bit long at times, but do an amazing job of creating mood and feeling that we may not be use to in modern horror films, moving away from horror, and giving us more tragedy. It evolves in to a very interesting film, and the finally scenes are stunning, building up to an amazing death scene, unlike no other! Now this bulky DVD case gives us 2 disc, with the original German and English track. In English some of the actors performances are watered down as they worry about saying the lines in a foreign tongue, but it does not take to much away from its power. In German, the actor are much more comfortable giving better performances, but Nosferatu, by far stands out. His mood and tone in German, give much more grief and sorrow, while in English give us more of a sense of evil and desire to satisfy his hunger. The picture quality is not the greatest and at times suffers when trying to display amazing out doors shots, sadly I doubt this is a film that will not see a better digital transfer to ease issues with picture. Its sound is amazing, and music fits perfectly. I recommend seeing it in both languages. I find this to be the BEST Dracula film, and a stunning take on creating a new NOSFERATU! A great film for mature moviegoers out there and a must for classic vampire fans. Its no Twilight, so do not come in expecting romance and smooth vampires. This is classic film making at its best!Read full review
Consider this Nosferatu like a fan-art of Murneau's classic and nothing more. It's fun to see some of the same scenes and location being remade, but the mysterious atmosphere of the original is totally gone, replaced by a corny feel. Also, the original vampire of Murneau's was a frightful and total baddass, making Gorf Orlock THE most awesome vampire of the whole history of cinema. This Dracula, however, feel old, pathetic, and desperate... which I'm sure was the original intention. Still, any fan of any classic vampire movies should get it, just for the extended ending featuring Adjani's strong character, and that surprise final act.
This dvd is awesome, just like the original silent movie of 1922. Very entertaining with sound.

Great movie if you haven't seen it. Very fun having both the english and german versions at hand to compare. It's a shame more horror movies are not made with the same quality and feeling. The simplicity of the scenes and the mounting dread are what make the movie itself a horror film. Dracula (Orlok), Kinski is incredible. His loathe sadness is quite a fright as it builds to a desparate yearning for the attentions of Lucy, Adjani. All around great casting.
Excellent foreign movie is the remake of silent 1922 Nosferatu...very little different ways...Nosferatu threw himself to the floor while the sun comes up and dead...the lady died in her bed...her husband became next Nosferatu and escaped to Tranylvania! I enjoyed to read the closed-captioned for hearing-impaired what they speak in the movie! Thank for Dvd is the best than VHS! I bought it because I like remake color Nosferatu with sound!
This version of Nosferatu is the best. It is very hard to come by, I couldn't find it in the stores. Even if you don't like typical dracula movies you should give this one a try ! An Amazing masterpiece !
I love this movie. The quality of the cd disk set is very good. I haven't watched the German version yet.
I bought this for my fiance, his was stolen some years ago and he hadn't been able to find another copy. He and I watched it together and honestly, I enjoyed it because it didn't try to make everything all happy in the end like most movies do.
