I rented this film after reading the review in Empire it is set in Italy, mainly Rome from 1970 to early 1990 and follows a group of childhood friends who become gangsters together and ultimately meet sticky ends, it sounded like a good story and the review was very good also. I liked it so much that I had to buy it; this version was also in a special tin box which seemed like a good reason too. You could easily put this film in the same league as The Godfather or Goodfellas. It is quite violent and sad but griping and if you manage to check out the book (which as usual is much better than the film) you will be forced to watch this also. The great story and acting make this a must see film which due to it not being made in English was never given the wide cinema release and publicity that it deserved and needed to make it as famous here as it is in Italy.Read full review
A lively docu-drama following a group of criminals in Italy at the time of the kidnapping of the Italian president and leading up to the Bologna train massacre. Over two hours long, it's best watched in full with a clear head, there are many characters and several intertwining relationships. It ends with the coming down of the Berlin Wall, the opening up of the Iron Curtain, and makes an interesting observation about the dark changes this has created in our world. Good acting, strong characters, plenty of conflict, can be viewed as a slice of history or as an entertaining gangster flick.
An excellent film well worth seeing - From the moulding boyhood exeperience these young men they get swept up into a life of crime. What follows is potted history of intrigue in the Italy of the 70's and eighties - Martin Scorcesse eat your heart out ! Il suo non tutta che una vita dolce ! Ma Bravissimo
must be a couple of weeks ago that I saw this film. It did make an impression as the atmosphere of Italian history and crime was powerful.Do remember losing track a few times of who was who as a number of characters looked similar. Don't have wine while watching or be tired before it starts! Yes- give it a watch- much better than cliched American stuff as it's fresher and more European. AH
