About this product

Product Information

In this surprising, buoyant comedy, a young, gay actor/waiter finds "Mr. Right" after becoming celibate in the age of AIDS. Struggling with the notion of commitment after discovering his perfect man is HIV-positive, he relies on his best friend (Patrick Stewart as an interior decorator), a self-absorbed New Age evangelist, and a hilariously lascivious priest to help him find the way. Adapted from Paul Rudnick's Obie award-winning play.

  • Somehow It Works.

This is an amusing and otherwise entertaining gay romcom about a definitely not amusing subject, AIDS. It was made in the early Nineties. That was a time when ART was in its infancy. Dosing hadn't quite been figured out. AZT was about the only ART available and not everyone could tolerate it well. I know it seems hard to figure out how and why they would use this as the basis for a romantic comedy. Somehow it works. There were places where the characters seemed a bit too flip about this subject. The film is well acted, produced and directed. It had a good budget as is evidenced by the quality of everything involved. I really enjoyed it. It does make you think about how that time could have been better handled by all.

  • A Fun and Surprisingly Still Relevant Romantic Comedy

This is a fun, playful movie about some difficult issues that face not only the gay community, but everyone. Fourth-wall-breaking, tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top, and just plain happy being watched! Loaded with well known actor cameos, and starring two underrated tv actors. If that doesn't sound good enough to tempt you, then I cannot stress enough that Patrick Stewart's performance is an absolute MUST SEE!!!! He steals every scene he's in, and makes this movie worth seeing all by himself.
